Actually, he belonged to the Episcopalian Church. But it is documented that he refused to accept communion because he did not believe in it. If you read his writings, he never claims to be a Deist, but his beliefs are similar. See...

Many of Washington's statements towards the end of his life indicate Deism, but he never used that word.
