When I attended high school( a private school) the biggest thing I worried about was maintaining a b+ average so I could play sports. The kids today have a lot more peer pressure. Kids with guns, drugs ,gangs. Movies , TV, are a part of the problem because they glorify the, violence Where are the parents?.Until I went into the Army (at17) my mom& dad knew where I was & what I was doing every moment.. They even called or went by parties I went to. If I said I was going somewhere I had better be there when they showed up or else.As for schools , they are doing as much as they can with the laws the way they are. The ACLU has every one so scared of law suits they do not always do as they should. 5 years ago a 13 year old boy brought a gun to school in his backpack. Someone kicked the backpack & the gun went off. Thanks to Gods mercery no one was hurt. The school suspended the teen for the rest of the year. The parents went to court & the court ordered the school to pay for a tuitor for home schooling.

No kids today aren't safe whether they are out with friends or in school. I read in a paper the other day where a 4 year old little girl was killed by a drive by gang shooter while playing at the park with her mother, not to mention all the school shootings where innocent kids are loosing their lives. Most of the problem goes back to when society said it was wrong to spank a child and punishment was grounding them and then they set in front of a tv with too much time on their hands. It is all about one group of kids that think they are better than everyone else because they wear name brand cloths and the other kids have to settle for cheap or hand me down and ar made to feel inferior and yet the parents approve of their children having this attitude and often are just as bad. We live in a small farming community where everyone knows everyone, our kids have all grown up together and all the kids are friends some just closer than others and yet I know they aren't 100% safe when they walk out the door. Our school has an officer on duty from 8-3 while the kids are there, they are not allowed to carry backpacks into the classrooms and all classroom doors are locked from the inside to keep outsiders out. All doors going into the school except for the one in front of the office are locked and no one from the outside is going to get in without being seen but I still know that if someone was desperate or crazy enough they could get to those kids. And as far as staying home a few years ago where I live they had "the railroad killer" who rode the railcars got off when he wanted and broke into homes killing his victims then hoping on the next boxcar out. All we can do is make ourselfs as safe as can. All three of my kids have cell phones so they can reach me at anytime if a crisis occurs and we trust our faith in God to protect us from there.

I've been told that there are about 20,000 High Schools in America. The probability of a shooting happening again at your kids school is 1/20,000, so yes. We are safe. Schools are the safest place we can be at. Every generation of High Schoolers has to deal with something different. Our generation has to deal with school shootings. The generation before us (40-50 year olds) had to deal with air-raids. Then the next generation will have to deal with something different, and so on... do you see where I'm going with this?

I am a Highschooler, and I have no intention of shooting anybody.

One gothic kid also threatened my daughter when she refused to date him. She found the biggest guy on the football team and asked him to the Homecoming Dance. Needless to say, the gothic kid left her alone.
Of course that was 6 years ago.

When I was in school I remember well how another person in another color want to carve her letters in my face. Every person in that color came to my defense and walk me home
walk me to school and they would walk a extra 4 to 5 miles to help me out.
This was 40 years ago things have not changed to much just a different way to harm kids.
What I wish you to know is kids watch for kids the school is aware of problems. If she is scared she has a reason get her to open up to you and the school teachers . Hlelp by becoming in her life but try not to change it

I think there has to be more measures taken to protect our children while at school. The administrators have to revamp their system. It's unfortunate that we live in times like this. I know the biggest fear I had going to school was if I would pass the test!! I feel so badly for our kids now . But, you can't keep them in the house forever either. Every day my grandchildren leave for school I pray for their guardian angels to follow. If we live our lives in fear then they already win. Eventually I see metal detectors in the doorway to every school and swiping I.D. cards in and out of school.

OUR KIDS ARE NOT SAFE AT ALL ANYMORE. I PRAY FOR MY CHILDREN EACH DAY THAT THEY MAKE IT TO SCHOOL AND BACK HOME SAFE. YOU NEVER KNOW IF THEY WILL MAKE IT BACK IT HOME. WE NEED TO BE CAREFUL ALSO BECAUSE THEY ARE OUT TO GET US TOO.

Not anymore.

One shooting started two weeks ago, that seemed to trigger all of this.
