First take a look at why your friends don't like him. Is it becasue he has treated people badly and is a jerk? If so you might be blinded by lush....we have all been there at some point in time. Or is it based on something superfical like if he is popular or dresses a certain way. If it is something superfical then go for it!

You should go for it, because it doesn't matter what they think. If you really like him, then go for it. If they make fun of you or something, instead of saying, "Wow, I'd like to be you," or "Wow, he really likes you, I'm so happy for you!" and stuff like that, they make fun of you, they're not your friends because if they are/were, then they'll support you. Just give it a shot!
