I just bought two lovebirds about a week ago and the day before i was outside with my lovebirds for an hour to get them used to me. I observed that one was rather brave than the other, and was enjoying the toys, food while i read a book. None of the birds seem sick. Later that day, i brought them into the study room, to accompany me while i was studying. At 8 oclock, the two birds started to sleep, but the brave bird was oddly enough sleeping on the bottom of the cage which was layered with grass, slowly losing it's balance, i thought that this was normal and just watch the birds every couple of minutes, soon the bird put it's head on a toy ladder to remain standing but eventually gave up and lay head down on the ground. Once in a while twitching or, changing position. I decided to leave the birds in peace and turned off the light. This morning i found the bird sleeping on the ground in the same position motionless. If anyone could please tell me why, i would much appreciate it...

my mom's bird did that same thing. if he was falling off the perch he probably got really hurt. another one of my birds died and the vet said he caught a draft. The birds seem perfectly normal and then just die. They are sick and you just don't know it in most cases.

The only thing i can tell you is you wont know anything is wrong with a bird till it is like to late most of the time. birds dont show sickness till there almost dead. so it is hard to tell when something is truly wrong with a bird. but your bird my have been sick and you did not know and the place you bought the bird from did not know to.if your other bird stats to act funny or sit at the bottom of the change puffed up and down take him to the vet .or take the other bird now to make sure that this bird does not have what the other might have had . if your bird that died was not eating it only takes a couple of hours for a love bird to die thats about al i can say sorry if i did not help you out enough.

Do you use Febreeze in your house at all? The chemicals in Febreeze will kill birds and reptiles. You can't use it anywhere in the house.

Almost every bird sleeps on a perch. If you ever notice your birds on the ground or seeming like they're losing their balance, call an avian vet IMMEDIATELY! Like someone else said, birds don't show sickness until they're in pretty bad shape.

Keep the birds in the house, keep them away from drafts, and call the pet store you bought them at to see if they've had any problems with other birds there in the store. Your bird could have caught something while he was in the store and just wan't showing symptoms until after the stress of moving to a new house.

Go back to the person you got it from and get your money back or it replaced. You got sick birds, who ever gave them to you knew they were sick. ANY bird sitting at the bottum of the cage is sick. A Healthy bird will stand on one foot on a perch to sleep. You shouldnt be useing grass at all. The bird could have been old or already sick long before you go it. I'd go get my money back and let them know the bird is dead.

Birds are prone to shock if moved from inside to outside or vice versa. Also, birds usually don't show signs of sickness until they are almost dead. I had a duck who was fine one day and died of pneumonia a few hours later. I own many pets including dogs, rabbits, lizards, parakeets, and poultry. I've found that house birds are among the most difficult to care for, simply because it is so difficult to determine the state of their health prior to purchasing.

Birds need to be acclaimated. You shouldn't take the birds outside and inside the adjustment would cause shock to their system.

He must've gotten into something that had insecticide on it. Take the other bird to an Avian vet to have it checked out.

You were supposed to take notice when he was on the ground (red flag on Petco caresheet) and when his head plopped. What kind of owner are you?
