Baltimore, MD, was attempting to "adopt" it as a floating museum, but the Navy turned down the request.

The Navy announced in July 06 that the Forrestal will be stripped to the bare bones, and then used for target practice and sunk in an undisclosed location off-limits to divers.

The USS Forrestal is now in Brownsville at All Star Metals for dismantling. On March 1st,former crew members and local visitors viewed her one last time. We didn't get to go on board though.

As of June, I saw it sitting at Naval Station Newport. It's been there for years. I think I read a Navy Times article recently that said they hope to take it out for target practice soon.
