Depends upon where and how it's done. There are limits to all speech. A non-elected citizen cannot, for example, walk onto the floor of the Senate or Parliament and start singing, even if he sings the national anthem. Also, there is a difference between harshly condemning what someone does or is and trying to stir up a club-wielding mob.

I think all the people you mention above should be free to rant away, in the right setting, but they'd better not actually lift one finger against a homosexual, Christian, Jew, woman, or psychiatrist or try to inspire others to do so.

Sadly, people of different religions have preached hate to other groups, using their religious books as a reason to do so.

I don't know about any other religion, but I know that Christians should not preach hate against anybody. A few people have answered that Christians should hate the sin, and not the sinner. I believe them to be true. In Leviticus it mentions that homosexuality is wrong, but so is lying and cheating. Everyone sins. We have no right to condemn someone else because of homosexuality.

Christians be not be able to preach hate against homosexuals because it is NOT in the Bible to do so.

The Bible teaches to hate sin, not the sinner. We want to save the sinner. How could you hate someone, and want to save them at the same time? Doesn't make sense, does it.

I don't really know if the Islamic holy book teach to hate, but it's in their school systems. They inculcate into their kids that way.

Islam does not say bad things or "hate" as you say about Christians, Jews, or Women. Infact The Quran teaches Muslims that Christians, and Jews are people of the book, and should be respected! Women are held in the highest esteem. ♥ No Religious freedom should not over rule hate laws... Religon is suppose to teach tollerance for other people.. The fact that other people do not believe as you do, does not give you reason to judge them... Or to disrespect them! That will never teach others to embrase your religon...

Absolutely not. Those hate laws were placed there Because of those types of people. And I wish they would enforce those laws to the fullest. It sickens me to see people preach hate and treat people who are different like s.hit and then run and hide behind their God(s), justifying their actions.

And that's your opinion, which you are free to express.

The right to free speech overrules the right to be perfectly at ease with everything you hear in society. Think on Voltaire's wonderful line: "I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Besides, you can't penalize entire religious groups because of misguided fundamentalists.

There is a difference between teaching "This is wrong" and teaching "This is something to be hated" or even "this is something to be sought out and destroyed".

The first is acceptable. The second and third are not.
