I just pulled a tic off my dog and the head was already embedded so it didn't come off! My vet is already closed and the last time he had a tic she told me that as long as I pulled it off he should be fine. I don't know though cause I've heard that if the head doe not come off then it can be dangerous. Should I go to emergency? Will hje get lime disease! I'm kind of panicing right now and I don't know what to do.

I would be careful putting anything on it. Try calling your vet and ask for advise. They can suggest what to do over the phone and then you won't be charged for an emergency visit usless they suggest bringing him in.

It is NOT dangerous if the head gets left behind. It will work it's way out. Also a tick needs to be attached at least 48 hours in order to release toxins into the system. It isn't necassary to see a vet concerning a tick head left behind..simply clean the area with peroxide and apply neosporin to the area. There may be a bump, redness even a scabby spot for a few days but that's normal.

Rub the area with a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol. The disease won't show up for a while if he got it; be sure to test Tigger next spring when you have him heartworm tested (it's usually all in the same test).

no.......... there is no reason to panic. dogs have a lot stronger amune system than you or i. wipe the spot with alcohol and just keep an eye on it til tomorrow. if it swells or seems to be comming infected THEN take it to the vet. this is not an emergency.........

maybe you shouldnt listen to the vet and pull them off,you might be hard to do it but you should. my brothers friend lynn has a puppy and it had ticks in his ears and she pulled them out.

put alcohol on the tic and it will back out by itself, then you can dispose of the little bugger.
