Also many other times, according to the Watchtower. Come on! how many times is it going to take before you open your eyes? I dont hate the JW's. I just cant understand the blind obedience to the WTB&TS after there have been so many failed prophecies re: End of world. A false prophet is one who's prophecies have not come to pass. God is either false or true....."the word was a god" means Jesus was a false God, therefore not to be believed! (according to the NWT translation of John: 1. Thomas said," my lord and my God (capitol G)....where is your consistency?

to TeeM. If satan, a small g god is a false god........is Jesus a small g god a false god? There are only true Gods and false gods. Only one God or not only one God......what is this, the battle of the competing Gods? Anything, anything to prove your religious beliefs. God is not the God of confusion.....thats the God I worship. Sounds like the Laws all over again which Jesus fulfilled in whole and not in part. Your just to Legalistic. MY goodness, I must commend your faith and defense of the Watchtower Society. My God never changes as the WTBTS has over all these years.

Despite the lying slander of their more deceitful critics, Jehovah's Witnesses have humbly taught that they are *NOT* infallible and *NOT* inspired by God; that's more than 125 years of unwavering eschewal of the definition of "prophet" insisted upon by this so-called "questioner" and other anti-Witness activists.

Jehovah's Witnesses apply the term "prophet" only in a very limited sense to themselves as a religion, not to individuals. The Scriptures indicate that whenever Jehovah purposes to execute judgment upon a people, he always makes arrangment for a 'prophet's work' as a warning. Their self-description as a "prophet" (in this limited sense) does not indicate special inspired knowledge or foreknowledge, but their willingness to perform Christ's assigned warning work in our day leading up to Armageddon.

What group is working harder than Jehovah's Witnesses to preach God's message globally (as Noah did before the Deluge)?

(Amos 3:7) For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets.

(2 Peter 2:5) Noah, a preacher of righteousness...

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

So are you reading the Watchtower material yourself or are you just quoting someone else?

I highly encourage you to do your own reading, and not what you've read from a web site.

I hate to bust your bubble, but God with a Capital G, does not have to do with Jehovah, or the Supreme God.

The capital is used to show if the word is used as a title God, or just a noun "a god" (Judges 13:21, 22)

God in 2 Cor 4:4 where Satan is called the god of this system of things, is not capitalized because Satan is a false god (which he is) but because the word god in this usage is not a title.
(You will notice that the first god in this sentence is also captialized because it's proper English)

Isa 9:6 Might God is capitalized because this is a title.

At John 1:1 "the Word was a god" in this case god is not a title, but a descriptive noun.

Difference between President Bush , and George Bush is the president.

Again please continue to read the publications yourself instead of trusting others to think for you.

I know several who started reading publications to prove J.W.'s wrong and they are zealous witnesses today.

Edit 10/13:

Where is it written that there are only True God (by the way, there are no true Gods) and other gods are False?

At Judges 13:21,22 Samsoms father calls the angel of Jehovah "God" with a capital G.

According to your rule (not mine) this makes the angel equal to Jehovah.

We know this isn't true, so your rule is in error.

Moses at Ex 7:1, depending on the translation has Moses being God or god to Pharaoh.

Does this make Moses equal to Jehovah, or make Moses a false god?

No to both, Moses is not equal to Jehovah, and since it is Jehovah making Moses a god, he can't be called a false god.

People forget that an alternate meaning to the word god is a mighty one.

Is the angel (God) and Moses (God) mighty?

Yes. Are they the Almighty? No.

Is Jesus a Mighty God? Yes.

Is Jesus the Almighty God? No.

In these examples the Hebrew word for god is Elohim.

Elohim can mean "gods" or it can mean "Supreme God" No dictionary I've found gives it the meaning of Supreme Gods.

Though Elohim can be used to discribe angels, men, false gods, and the true God.

Jehovah is only used as the Name of the One True God.

It's nice that your not hateful and therefore i will answer your ? in the best way i can. First of all, they thought 1914 and 1925 were going to be times of the end and were wrong about those. We still do beleive that 1914 was a significant year in history, the end of the gentile times spoken of in the book of Daniel and ever since then the world has been in a state of chaos it hadn't experienced before. Wars, disease, earthquakes, famines, the breakdown of the family, corruption, etc.. 1975 was the year figured for 6000 years after the time of Adam and thus many assumed this would be the time for Christ's millenial reign. Many were stumbled over this and it was because of forgetting Jesus's words that "no one knows the day or the hour, only the Father. "

I admit that looks bad, but even the early Christain congregations had misunderstandings at times such as over the circumcision issue and the apostles thought Jesus was going to set up his kingdom immediately. We no longer look at a date , but with worldwide problems developing everyday, it only strenghthens our faith that it will be soon and that's why we continually go door to door to tell our neighbors about the good news just as Jesus commanded at Matthew 24; 14

Your last ? was about the word. The bible says at Psalms 8 ; that YOU have made him a little less than godlike ones, And with glory and splendor YOU then crowned him. This was obviously a prophecy about Jesus being made lower than the angels. Even Satan was called the god of this system of things at 2 Corinthians 4;4 . Jesus used the correct definition when he called him the ruler of the world at John 14; 30. Remember , Satan had promised him all the kingdoms for one act of worship and Jesus had replied " You shall worhip the Lord your God , and him only shall you serve." (new King James Version) Jesus is also referred to as "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace." at Isaiah 4 ; 6. This differentiates from Revalation 16; 14 which refers to armageddon as the war of Almighty God and Psalms 83; 18 calls Jehovah the most High over all the earth.( authorized version King James) This is the faith we have towards Jesus as expressed at Phillipians 2; 9- 11 Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (new King James Version)

I am not trying to start a debate, just want to show that we have as much faith in Jesus as all other Christians and obey him as our Lord and Savior. We don't beleive he's God , but God's only begotton son, God's firstborn creation.

Lies like this question and many of these answers are so pathetic. You condeming zealots make YOURSELFS look unreasonalbe and fanatical.

By their standard, every religion who has ever conscientiously taught something that turned out to be untrue is a "false prophet", which is baloney.

Blind obedience? You act like Watchtower is telling them to put on Nikes, drink cool-aid and wait for the 'mothership'. I think the people who obsess about Jehovah's Witnesses are mostly jealous that their own pastors condone homosexuals and abortion while everyone in their churches NEVER EVER does the preaching work. Thats blindness to the bible, which is the worst kind of blindness.

I have looked at many of these things and they did indeed say the organization was a prophet in the same class as Jeremiah. If they did not belive Jehovah told them that Jesus would return, why did they build a mansion in San Diego called Beth Sarim

In the book "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" Judge Rutherford wrote, . . . "the great jubilee cycle is due to begin in 1925. At that time the earthly phase of the kingdom shall be recognized. The Apostle Paul in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews names a long list of faithful men who died before the crucifixion of the Lord and before beginning of the selection of the church. . . . They are to be resurrected as perfect men and constitute the princes or rulers in the earth, according to his promise. . . . Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews chapter eleven, to the condition of human perfection."

Anyone could be a prophet from God IF they could change what they said AFTER the date. We can see that from so many that tell us "I knew that would happen" after it does.

IDENTIFYING THE "PROPHET" -- "So does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come? These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet?...This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses...Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a ‘prophet' of God. It is another thing to prove it." The Watchtower, 4/1/72, p. 197. (See Deut. 18:21)

Wow, Who ever said it was SUPPOSE to end in 1975? I mean in the bible it says that only God know the day and hour. So how would anyone else know when the period of Armageddon would begin?

RE: GORBALIZER'S COMMENTS

I would like to respond to gorbalizer's comment that the WT only said that 1975 would mark "6000 years of human history. Nothing else." Perhaps gorbalizer is sincerely of that opinion, or perhaps he is in denial, but that statement is not entirely the truth.

It's true the WT said that the year 1975 would mark 6000 years of human history. The WT also said that 1975 was a "significant" year. Why? What is significant about 6000 years of human history? This is what they taught us:

1. Each creative day was 7,000 years long.

2. We are living in the 7th 7,000 year creative day.

3. The last 1,000 years of this creative day would be the 1,000 year reign of Christ which would begin immediately after Armageddon.

4. At the end of 6,000 years of human history (1975), there will only be 1,000 years left of the 7,000 year period. Therefore, it is only reasonable that the 1,000 year reign must begin at the end of the 6,000 years of human history which would be in the year....yep....1975.

For any of you relatively new JW's since 1975, do some research in the WT library, particularly in the book Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God. Read the Aid book about the creative days, and the book God's Kingdom of a Thousand Years has Approached. It's true that you will not find a point-blank statement that the 1,000 year reign would begin in 1975. Why not? Because the Watchtower DID make point-blank statements about 1914 and 1925 and ended up having to eat their words. So to 'cover their rears', they made a point of saying that they were NOT saying that 1975 would bring Armageddon or the 1000 year reign, in the unlikely event that they were wrong yet again. At the same time, they continually showed us from "reliable" Bible chronology that such a conclusion was reasonable. And for good measure, they reminded us of this:

*** w74 1/15 p. 50 ‘Keep Close in Mind the Presence of the Day of Jehovah’ ***

5 If we keep alert and in tune with what Jehovah is doing, we are always sharers in great blessings. On the other hand, we are in danger if we develop an attitude of skepticism toward the things pointed out to us by the “faithful and discreet slave,” that composite Christian body through which Jesus Christ provides spiritual food for his disciples. We can find ourselves in a situation where we are like stragglers in an army column, easily picked off by the enemy.—Matt. 24:45.

So even though they did not come right out and say that 1975 would bring Armageddon, only an idiot could have read the Watchtower, attended the Kingdom Hall, and not hear that Jesus, through the "faithful slave", was "pointing out" that 1975 was a "marked" year. And if we were inclined to not put faith in the slave's direction, we were threatened with being "picked off" because we were skeptical of the things being "pointed out" by the slave. And what were they pointing out for us? 1975. Over and over and over again, from 1966 right up to the time of the above Watchtower article.

Then when 1975 failed to be significant in any way, the oh-so-humble faithful slave blamed us for having a wrong view - even though in 1974 they were threatening us with being "picked off" if we didn't share that view which they were "pointing out" to us. If you think these men "humbly admit their mistakes", read the July 15th, 1976 WT "A Solid Basis for Confidence" in which they take NO responsibility for THEIR mistake.

RE: ACHTUNG'S COMMENTS
I would also like to respond to Achtung's comment that the WT's self-designation as a prophet "does not indicate special knowledge or foreknowledge". If that's true, then why does the WT make the following statement?

*** w60 7/15 pp. 443-444 Staying Awake with the “Faithful and Discreet Slave” ***

" In 1942 the “faithful and discreet slave” guided by Jehovah’s UNERRING spirit made known that the democracies would win World War II and that there would be a United Nations organization set up. Such wakefulness was concerning events that UNERRINGLY took place three years later. At the 1958 Divine Will International Assembly AMAZING ADVANCE INFORMATION in connection with Daniel’s prophecy was given about events to occur in the immediate future. ... Once again the “faithful and discreet slave” has been TIPPED OFF ahead of time for the guidance of all lovers of God."

Notice the capitalized words. Do not such words indicate that "the faithful and discreet slave" not only have SPECIAL knowledge (by virtue of being guided by the UNERRING holy spirit), but also FOREknowledge as indicated by "amazing ADVANCE information, and being "tipped off" by the holy spirit. And the words "ahead of time".....doesn't that indicate "foreknowledge, meaning that they knew it beFORE it happened.

So please don't say that the men who like to call themselves the "faithful slave" don't claim to have "foreknowledge". This is only one of many, many places where they lay claim to being a prophet, and not in any limited sense but in the only sense that matters: Direct guidance of Jehovah through his holy spirit.

So if the slave claims to be guided by the unerring holy spirit and knows information in "advance", how could the slave "err" about 1975? There's only one reasonable explanation:

Deut 18:22 "When the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it. You must not be frightened at him"
