Shorty Baby,
You may not believe this, but your cat looks at you as their mother. It doesn't matter if you are male or female, your cat thinks you are there mother cat. When they bring you their catch they are sharing there success at hunting. Act surprised and be happy for him or her and don't scold them, it's in there nature to hunt, I agree it is gross. Your new kitten will probably do the same thing if you let it go outside.

Cats will kill rodents and birds and other small prey and bring it to you or set it somewhere you will find it because they are showing you appreciation (odd, huh? You *really* wanted a dead rat on your feet, right?) for all the love and care you give them. It's a natural instinct for them, but not all cats will do this. My mother-in-law's cats always ate the prey or left it in the yard. They never brought it anywhere near anyone (I'm not surprised seeing as she hits the cats as a main form of punishment) in the house. My two have never done it, but they are young yet, and haven't had the opportunity.

It's a cat's natural instinct to hunt. They are predators in the purest sense. They learn this skill from their mother or from other cats they are around when they are tiny kittens. Even playing with them nurtures this instinct. (When they chase a toy or bat at something, they are honing their hunting skills.)
Most cats that do have access to such, er, wildlife will bring "presents" for you. They do it to pay back your kindness. You gave them food, so they give you some in return. My ten cats that live indoors bring me their toys sometimes, as they do not have access to live rodents and birds. Some of the strays/ferals that I feed will leave dead rodents and birds on my doorstep. I always let them know how grateful I am that they care enough to give me such thoughtful gifts.
So consider yourself lucky! Your cat loves you! And a cat doesn't give his love away to just anyone. No, you have to earn it. Looks like you have!

Not all cats do it or at least not all the time or bring it to you. I would think they do it to show you they did good hunting. As if to get praise for being the big bad hunter. Or it's really fun to play with a new mouse until the batteries go dead and...oh no it stopped moving..better give it to mom so she can fix it.

My male 18 year old 20 pound indoor cat loves to bring me rolled up socks and lay them on the bottom of my bed. It is really cute. It is funny because he tends to be a fiesty thing but sometimes he just acts like such a mama's boy. It is the same thing when he lays on my lap and kneeds and drools a little bit like I am his mom and he is trying to get milk from my leg. I think cats just have a tendancy to treat humans like they are their real life mama cats by bringing them presents. I'm sure if my cat was an outside cat he would bring me a mouse instead. I would keep your cats indoor. Indoor cats live longer too!

Both my cats do the same. They have brought home mice, snakes, birds, and everything else. Than they will play with it and mutilate it on most occasions. My younger cat doesn't do it like my older one who loves to do it. But they are just showing you their gratitude and to show you how good they are at hunting. Most just do it for fun while others do it to eat. There's really nothing much you can do, atleast I haven't found anything.

Because she loves you.
They bring you these 'gifts' as a sign of affection. One of the best ways of stopping it is to put a bell on her collar (that way the birds, mice etc. know shes there and they can escape)
I recon you new kitty will do it too unless she has a collar cause its nature.

It is basically the cats way of showing off. When we got our puppy our cat at the time brought "offerings" or dead animals to the front door for 2 weeks in case he had dome somthing wrong. Has somthing changed in your house that may have been tramatic for your cat, somthing that it may be trying to make amens for?

They do this and leave the dead mice-mole or wharever for you to find. To the cat it is like going out and getting you a present!

It's a gift.
Shows she is a good hunter and wants praise.
Cats learn to be hunters.
If they have never been a hunter, don't expect them to kill the mice in your house.
