I have been taking Zoloft for depression/ anxiety for about 6 months and I do not think it's helping any more. I would like to switch to another SSRI (I've already been on Ativan and Celexa). I want to change, but to something that is going to be different but similar...understand what I mean?

Yes, sometimes the drug can seem like it isn't working anymore. Is it really not working though, or are you going through something more stressful lately? This might be something to talk over with the Dr. before you switch. Perhaps the dosage is too low for you and he might adjust it to a slightly higher dose. Regardless talk to the Dr. about the changes you are experiencing. Here is a link that lists the other SSRI's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSRI
I know finding a new antidepressant can be overwhelming and scary, I have been through it. I ended up on Prozac for obsessive compulsive and extreme anxiety. Although Prozac may not work for everyone, it works great for me. It gives me a calming effect and a sense of clarity.
Not everyone can use the same antidepressant with the same results though. Everyone has something that works better for them, than the other medications. For instance, my grown nieces take Zoloft with great results and it didn't work for me. Good luck to you on finding what works best for you!

Try Cipralex.
Cipralex is an allosteric serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ASRI) with a unique Serotonin Dual-Action.
Cipralex seems to belong to a class of its own.
With efficacy superior to SSRIs and at least on par with SNRIs, it offers treatment response and remission rates beyond currently available levels. Combining this superior efficacy with the excellent tolerability for which the parent compound was well known, it has the potential to establish a new treatment standard for the years to come.

the respond is easy. you're particularly dealing with withdrawal. Why? on account which you in no way, in no way, in no way stop taking SSRIs or different regulated drugs like Ativan and Valium chilly turkey. So, manage the withdrawal warning signs (except you're thinking of suicide) or do what you do not prefer to take heed to - see your well-being care provider. i've got achieved chilly turkey on SSRIs and the withdrawal is organic hell and that i'm a nurse! i think for you. stable success!

sorry, i'm not really sure. i took zoloft too, but it never helped me at all. it just made it worse. quite frankly, i don't really have much hope for anti-depressants. i can't give you any suggestions because i've taken many meds, and they all didn't do ****. but, some meds work for different people so i would suggest : lexapro or Cymbalta. actually, i think cymbalta is more like Zoloft than lexapro is. you should look it up. also, another one is Wellbutrin...

The drugs aren't helping and it's not because of the drugs, it's because of your own thoughts. You really should consider a different therapy to re-train your thoughts and gain control over your emotions. Drugs don't cure anything, they simply mask (some of) the emotions you're feeling. The causes (your thoughts) don't change, so you never feel good on any drug.
Why not get some cognative therapy and learn to cope without the chemicals in your body? It seems pretty clear that drugs aren't "curing" the problem.
