Okay I am Catholic and this question was asked to me in Youth Group. They asked what specific characteristics would a religin have to have in order for God to know it is the one He created before he left

No religion itself will make it into heaven. You must be a born again Christian, have accepted Christ as your savior. It doesn't matter what religion you belong to if you don't practice the teachings of Christ, then it's just for show. God/Christ doesn't have to look and see what characteristics a certain religion shows, he knows all and can read your heart.
I know very little about the Catholic faith, I was raised in a non-denominational Christian environment. I believe it's what you accept into your soul, and what kind of person you strive to be. God doesn't expect perfection, just devotion to his teachings in the Bible.

This question is unclear. Do you mean, if God returns, how would he figure out which religion he created before he left?
I think he could figure it out. He's God. He can make religions with any characteristics He wants.

God didn't create religion, humans created it. You can worship God sitting in your living room or going for a walk in the forest, or sitting beside a nice pond or lake. The Holy Spirit just wants us to love and believe in Him.

He did not create religions.
We did.
He would choose the religion that best exemplifies his message. ie by showing love in our everyday life and deeds we are sending His message to mankind. Forgiveness, compassion, fellowship, hope, love, charity .. it goes on. So which religion do you vote for? I say they all summarise God's will in some way. Is any religion better than any other?

God created human beings , not religions.
People did that.
I don't think it matters to God what so called religion you are , as long as you worship him and live by Gods Word, THE BIBLE.

the place he will be looking for will most likely not be a church
but a homeless shelter .. or an orphanage ... or a care home etc
he will want to find the place that is activly giving with all their heart to others who need care and love
a place where real angels can be found
