It sounds to me as if he contracted the Parvo virus. I know this is painful to dredge up, but was the "poo" particularly SMELLY...I mean, really REALLY smelly...much more so than normal dog poop?
Your dog should have been vaccinated against parvo, but in the end, it doesn't matter. You've lost a companion and my heart goes out to you. I'm so very sorry.
I know you may not want to at the moment, but you should check with your friend to see if his dog is sick, as well. Parvo is spread through dog feces and can live in the ground for eons...literally. So it's possible that your dog contracted the virus simply by walking in his yard. Your friend and his neighbors need to be warned so that they can get the appropriate tests, treatments and vaccinations before the same fate befalls their pets.
At the shelter where I worked for three years, we had an outbreak last year and we ended getting a burn permit from the local fire deparment...soaking the ground in motor oil and setting fire to it. Once we were done with that we poured gallons and gallons of bleach on the ground then laid sod over it all. To date, there have been no other outbreaks, but I try not to get too cocky....
Again, my sympathies to you and yours. Peace to you.

Your question is not completely clear. You say you came back and he hasn't been home for 2 days.
How do you know about the poopin and throwing up?
Anyway, the vomiting and pooping sounds like he has been poisoned. He/she may have gotten a hold of some rat poison.

evidently they didnt watch him very well? Jacks need supervision as they can get themselves in trouble very easy.he probably ate or ingested something he shouldnt have? mine ate a box of crayons for spite I think?how he got them is a mystery?we have a total of 3 Jacks and they take a lot of watching . Yours might have got a virus?dehydration? they can become so overwrought or wound up as to go off feed for a couple days? separation anxiety is a problem we have too? sorry for your loss!

Did the other person have another dog? Sounds like Parvo...or else he ate something poisonous. Did you take him to the vet when he was sick?...if you didn't, then shame on you!

Sounds a bit like he contracted the Parvo virus. They usually don't last long after they get it. I am sorry for your loss.

he ate something that poisoned him... either bad food or a rat that ate rat poison, or transmission fluid(a 1/2 teaspoon can kill a dog)?? just some ideas, so sorry for your loss. just b/c you are careful and house proof for your pet doesnt mean every one does. kennels arent fun but they usually are safe. for next time.
