It depends. Some women are born without hymens, some rupture them playing sports or doing gymnastics or even riding horses, some women have incomplete hymens that just get stretched and don't fully break until they have kids, and some women have very thin hymens that don't hurt much at all.
Then there are some of us with more intact hymens who experience a lot of pain when having sex for the first time. It depends, there's really no way to tell how it's going to be for you. You might bleed all over the place and feel a lot of pain, or you might be totally fine.

it depends on a lot of factors. if you worry about it, it will hurt more because you will be distracted from what is happening and thinking about something else. be calm and don't plan. and and your boyfriend get a pack of condoms with you at all times just to be on the safe side and forget about it then. get to know each other well, and each other's body, and let it happen naturally instead of making big plans to a romantic first time on the prom night. because that is going to give you big expectations and then you'll spend all the day thinking about it and get really nervous when the time comes, so your muscles down there will not relax and it will hurt a lot more. and get to know your body well, it's the most important thing. you need to know what you like so you can point it to him, because boys just don't know. they think they do, but they're only think so because they don't even know what's there to discover.
there's a great book about first time, and really fun to read. it's called Ready or Not, by Meg Cabot. but don't take it too seriously about the methods to avoid pregnancy. if i remember well, she forgets to mention that pills dont protect you from diseases, and she forgets to say USE CONDOMS ALWAYS!!! NO MATTER WHAT AND WITH WHO. USE CONDOMS.
using some kind of water based lubricant helps a lot too. sometimes the pain comes from the penetration itself, and not from breaking the hymen. in this case, it's mostly because of being dry (and this can be because you're nervous, as i said before). if you go for lubricants, remember it has to be water based. oil based lubes damage the condom, making it break.

if you relax you'll be fine. sex isn't supposed to be pain full, whether its your first or 99th time. make sure you and your partner use a water based lubricant as often nerves can effect the amount you produce, also decide on a birth control method BEFORE HAND!! Don't forget that pregnancy isn't the only thing you can get from sex so be sure to use a condom. best of luck and enjoy this wonderful milestone...
