I think the dog does not like his new bathroom 'cause it may not smell good to him. Depending on how old you dog is he should be able to hold his "stuff" for a long time, he may just need some
time to get adjusted to his new potty place, you might want to invite some other dog owner & have his, or her potty in the new place, that might help, especially if the other dog is a male too. You know how male dogs always have to pee over the spot the prior dog had peed on to mark his territory, give it a try. But in genaral I strongly believe in walking my dog, rain, sun, or snow, that is what your dog is looking forward to, being on a walk with you. Also wouldn't you have to change the sod quite often to prefend whatever bacteria could hang out in that space, which is not like the "great outdoors" for you dog ? I just wonder about that, why don't you call your vet to make sure about that new potty place, the best is still a good old fashion walk, & if it rains make it a short walk & make up for it with a longer walk after the rain.

Okay I got the answer. After a great deal of thought, here it is: YOU go out there and squat in the pooch potty. After you've gone potty out there a few times, he'll get the idea.
I'll take my 10 points now. Thank you.

It can take several weeks for him to adapt to his new environment. Expect house accidents, and if you don't have any be thankful!
Put him in the box and if he doesn't go potty, take him out and wait 15 minutes. Then take him back to the box and try again. Do this over an over and eventually he will go. When he does, praise like crazy and treat! You just may have to "retrain" him to go in his new box, as this is a new environment with new scents/sounds, and sights.
Good luck!

Well it's quite simple actually. You just need to put up a sign that tells him that is where he is supposed to go, otherwise how is he going to know? If that doesn't work, maybe if you SHOWED him what he is supposed to do, he will get the hint. You know, strip down, sniff around, crawl around on all fours, hunch your back and poop, then scrape up the dirt with your back legs.

Have you tried any of the sprays that they sell at petsmart? you just spray it where you want them to go and the scent will draw them to it and make them want to cover it up with their own smell. I did this when my pit bull was a puppy and we couldnt take her outside all the time b/c we werent supposed to have dogs. but it worked well with puppy pads.

for your dog to adapt to its new enviorment, it will take some time. Yes put some poop in his new litterbox then when he goes where you odnt want him to, drag him outside where your "pooch potty" it, poiint at the litterbox and start yelling at him, give him a little smack too, pretty much scold it. it will eventually start using that area for his poopies.
