It all depends on what kind of dog. long haired short legged, six months for a full coat. but make sure you brush a long coat one to two times daily and don't wait until it's long. start now because if he gets matted again he'll have to be shaved again. and keep regular grooming appointments. no longer than six weeks in between. you may also want to try a blend off trim. it's shorter on the back and blends into long skirts on the side. so much easier to keep up. you can also do a faux skirt where the underside is shaved out, also helps like eight tons more because brushing there hurts the very delicate skin.

Depends on the breed of dog. Also every dogs hair grows at different speeds... so its hard to tell if its the first time they have been shaved.

when it gets cold outside, the hair will grow faster, in the summer a dogs hair grows slow because its body is trying to keep cool, when it starts to get cold for winter its hair will grow faster for the body to keep warm
