I have been walking 2 to 3 miles a day for 5 days a week and I have completely stopped eating unhealthy. All I eat is skinnless chicken, turkey and fish, veggies and I may only take in about 20grams of fat per day. I'm not trying to lose 5 or 10 vanity pounds, I am trying to lose 80 lbs and I am doing everything in power to do it, but why do I feel so miserable, sad and depressed?

Well, first of all, if you haven't already, you should get your thyroid gland checked. That is sometimes the problem with overweight people. It seems to me that it is not your fault because you seem to be doing everything right.
I think beauty is superficial and everyone has their own definition of what is fat and what is thin. I don't think you should feel bad at all! Like I said, you are doing everything you should be doing which you should give yourself credit for doing. You may not physically see a huge change, but internally your body is thanking you.

I have been there. I have done everything to loose weight all my life. It is depressing no question. There are people out there who don't understand this but genetically you probably can't loose weight on your own. I believe there are people out there like you and me who need medical help. I finally had enough of the constant failure the self hatred(I actually used to cut myself) and I had LAP-BAND surgery. I started out wanting to loose about 80-90 lbs. I had the surgery in Feb. of '06 and now in Oct. I have lost 50 lbs already. I have an added disadvantage I have chronic back pain and can't exercise like you do so you'd probably loose weight really easy. Plus with your attitude towards food you are a really good candidate. It's expensive and I'm still paying it off but I would do it all over again. I have my self esteem back I feel so much more energetic and depression is a rare occurrence. Good luck. One last thing try pilates it works much better than walking or jogging much faster results. It really gets the heart rate going and with the muscle toning you burn calories even at rest. You can google LAP-BAND and find the website and it will direct you to a local surgen.

You need to fucus on the positive aspects of what you are doing. By walking as much as you do, you are improving your health, regardless of how much you weigh; the weight loss will follow.
I assume you have been overweight for a while - don't expect the weight to fall of you too quickly; slow gradual weight loss is better that rapid, it also allows your skin more time to contract.

Avoiding fat may not be the only way to reduce calorie intake. Write down everything you eat and drink in one week (everything!), then take it to a dietitian or get a book which lists calories. Reduce intake accordingly, to recommended daily intake without excluding any essentials (this is where a professional is most useful).

Hope this helps and Good luck

First and foremost is pills. If you are depressed and overweight, you take antidepressants and most likely blood pressure and cholesterol medication. This combination causes you to retain weight and no matter what you do, it hangs there. The US wants you to have mega buck stomach surgery. The rest of the world has a fat vaccine and two types of pills that allow you to lose with diet and exercise. We can't have those as the stomach surgery is medicine's current "cash cow". They can charge your insurance 20 thousand for it. The vaccine and pills are coming - but medical doctors and the "con"gress want their cut first. Relief is only a few months away according to my doctor. Meanwhile - keep trying as if you are already moving, you will be ahead of the rest of us. You pay your doctors salary so be demanding when it is your treatment. Good luck and we are all with you.

Are you loosing any weight at all? You diet is exactly what you should be doing. Couple that with the exercise is the way to go about it too. What about what you are drinking? Diet soda? Alcohol intake? Water? Losing weight is difficult, especially if sad and depressed about the weight to begin with. I was 40 lbs overweight due TO depression, but I lost it with exactly what you are doing...watching food intake but I took antidepresants, plus I got rid of what was making me depressed in the first place (husband...Ha ha). Ask you doctor for antidepresants such as Paxil CR, or Lexapro. Get the depression under control and keep up the great efforts of you exercises and food intake. Hang in there, my friend....you are never alone in this one

How many calories are you eating? Most women should never eat less than 1,200 calories a day...if you are, that might add to your sadness. Also, are you eating enough carbohydrates and protein. According to current guidelines, 45-65% of your daily calorie intake should come from carbohydrates, 20-35% from fats, and 10-35% from protein. Other than that, you seem to be doing well. Congratulations on walking and eating healthfully :)
