Of course, the rechargeble NiMH mentioned above are the way to go, but if you need to buy some on the road or "right away," get the Energizer Lithium e2 batteries. That cost more, but they last about 4 times longer. They are a serious improvement over any non-rechargeables available.

If your camera uses AA size batteries, then (for cost effectiveness) you need to purchase rechargeable NiMH AA batteries of at least 2500 MAh...plus a charger.
Just be cautious about which charger you buy because some charge batteries ultra fast such as in 30 mins-1 hour (battery longevity will lessen)...and others charge in 4, 8, or more hours.
Its always best to have a second set of batteries...just in case.

Lithium AA batteries- not as cost-effective in the long term as rechargeables, but they LAST for an entire day of shooting without needing to be changed.

By the way, the batteries which come with electronic devices almost always suck. They are usually "heavy duty" wich is even weaker than alkaline- worthless...

generic disposable alkaline and "long existence" batteries do not artwork properly in digital cameras, i advise against utilising them. Disposable lithium batteries are great in case you positioned the digicam aside for weeks at a time between shooting on the grounds that they'll take extremely some photographs and carry their cost in storage. Rechargeable Nickel metallic hydride (NiMH) batteries are the superb purchase for saving money while you're taking extremely some photographs, and allow you to take many photographs in keeping with cost, yet they have a tendency to lose their cost if left unused for quite a few weeks. i've got used NiMH batteries for years in my digital cameras, and have not offered any replacements yet. I extremely have saved a fortune in disposable batteries i've got _NOT_ offered. in spite of if, I ought to make useful I extremely have a series charged up each and every week or so in spite of if i don't plan shooting for a mutually as. it is kinda like brushing tooth - each and every so often it is a nuisance to spend the time doing those chores, in spite of if it is nice to get interior the habit of doing them besides...

I recommend you skip the rechargable battery section in your local electronics store and go for the cheapest standard batteries you can buy. Use 'em and chuck 'em. Digital cmaeras are hard on batteries and your rechargables may not last very long. Pack a few sets of AA's and chuck 'em as they wear out.

If your camera takes AA batteries, go for the rechargeable NiMH AA batteries. Also choose batteries with the highest mAH number (highest capacity) - these batteries will last the longest.

Here's a great FAQ for rechargeable NiMH batteries.
