ok, here's the deal.

If you date your best friends x, she is going to feel hurt, betrayed and ackward. She may say that it's not that big of a deal, and she may even think at the time that she can handle it, but sooner or later it will become too much for her to handle and it will most likely end your friendship.

You have to decide whether your friendship or this boy are more important. Is this boy potentially the guy that you would like to marry and does he feel the same way? If not, don't waiste your time. You and the guy will eventually break up and you will loose the guy and your best friend.

Avoid being around him and talking to him.Try not to act on your feelings for this guy. Even though he's her ex its just one of those unspoken rules of friendship. Getting with him could very well be the end of this friendship. u wouldn't want to loose a bestfriend over a guy who you don't know how long you'll last. do the right thing your feelings for him will go away eventually

well how serious were your best friend and her ex? if they were in a really serious relationship..then i think you should try to forget because it can cause alot of conflitcs between you and your friend. and friends always should come before guys. just think about what would happen if you told her. but, if they werent that serious..and you think that she wouldnt be as upset then you should be honest with her. you shouldnt hide it..especially from your best friend. but, it just really depends on the situation. just know that if she really was your best friend she would try to understand you if you did tell her.

i've been in this situation!! it's really hard, i understnd that, but i think it's best if you find out if your best friend still likes him. but either way, i don't think you should go out with him. cause this is just one of those things where if you screw up, it's gonna come back too you, and it will get worse.
