My neighbor's cat has been hanging around outside our house lately. He was eating bugs so I figured my neighbors weren't feeding him, so I did. At first all I had around the house was some cooked pork (I had made a roast and pulled some off and gave it to him). I also gave him a dish with a little milk in the bottom (all I had in the fridge was vitamin D milk). The next day he was back and was still eating bugs so I fed him again thinking he was hungry. I gave him a couple pieces of chicken lunch meat and again, vitaming D milk (lunch meat and milk was all I had on hand still). Finally on the third day I happened to be at walmart so I picked up a few cans of cat food and when I got home I gave him one (it was some sort of chicken liver and chicken hearts mix or something or other). A couple days ago when I was outside playing with him he went over into the mulch and dug a hole and pooped. It was runny and dark yellow. What's wrong? Was it something I gave him or was he sick before?

The food you gave him upset his little digestive system. Cats don't do well on cows milk, as they are carnivores. He's probably not used to the meat you've been giving him. Cats need a very balanced diet. The cat food is a good idea, though, as it has everything he needs. Cats sometimes eat bugs because they enjoy chasing and catching them. It doesn't always mean they're starving.
From now on, don't give the cat cows milk (there is milk available at pet supply stores that is appropriate for cats) and don't give him table scraps. Just give him cat food. The diarrhea will clear up in a couple of days and he'll be fine.

It was probably the rich pork, canned food and the worst is sthe milk.I have never understood why people make cartoons and shows that always give cats milk!Cats cannot have our milk. IF it is a kitten you should give it kitten formula and you can get it at Walmart or pet stores. The cat could be wormy also. When they eat bugs they are usually skinny. Get a good dry cat food for him and give him clean water every day.If he has been outside and hungry he could have eaten or drank something really deadly. I hope he gets better. You deserve a pat on the back for trying to feed a hungry animal!!Never start with rich foods when you think an animal is hungry. The chicken was probably the best that you gave him. Live and learn!Best wishes!

You should not feed cats milk. It can cause diarrhea. Cats are lactose intolerant. Cats should be fed cat food (dry is better than canned) NOT human food. So the stool could be caused by diet. If you are that concerned take a sample of the stool and the cat to the vet and have it checked out

Milk makes a lot of cats sick. Water is the best thing to give a cat to drink. Too much milk can kill a lactose intolerant cat. And no they won't stop drinking it cuz it makes them sick cats can't figure that out for themselves you have to keep the milk away from the cat.

Cat's should not be given the milk that humans drink as they are unable to digest it properly. Also, table scraps and lunch meat are not a good idea. Also, if a cat is not used to canned cat food, that may upset it's stomach. Just be careful that the kitty does not get dehydrated from diarrhea.

A well fed cat will eat anything it fancies.... even bugs. I had a very healthy cat - well fed - who's favourite pass time was catching and eating bugs.
Were I you, I would not feed my neighbours cat. Let him be.
Probably one of the bugs, the milk, or the pork left a bad taste and a worse intestinal issue with him.
If he looks sickly - tell you neighbour - it's not your business to try to fix the cat.

STOP feeding him milk!!
We see cats drinking milk in commercials, old tv shows and the like. But the fact of the matter is that most cats are lactose intolerant. That means that they can't digest the sugars in milk. Milk also has very little to no nutritional value for cats. The fact of the matter is that a cat fed only on milk will die of malnutrition. However most cats LOVE the taste of milk, so what do you do?
As a staple cats should always have fresh, cool water available to them. As long as your cat isn't lactose intolerant, milk is not bad for cats if it is given as an occasional treat (think of it as kitty junk food). The first step is to determine if your cat likes milk. If your cat does like milk then determine is he or she is lactose intolerant. If your cat is lactose intolerant then he/she will have a little diarrhea and a little stomach problems for a few days after drinking the milk. In this case you will definitely want to give your kitty a milk substitute created for cats. Such a substitute is created to have some nutritional value for cats while not upsetting their stomachs as real milk can. A good substitute is Cat's Sip, it can be found in your local pet store or grocery store. Many veterinarians suggest that if your cat does like milk and even if he/she isn't lactose intolerant that you should get him/her used to a milk substitute anyhow as it is better for the cat.

I had this situation, and changing the dog's food worked. The stuff in the litter (the poop) was basically processed meat since I fed the cat canned food. Could also be that he is interested in the litter itself. Maybe a check to makes sure the digestive system is working well. Cats and dogs eat grass and all kinds of things to keep the digestive tract healthy.

well hate to say this but you probably got him sick...cats cant have milk- their lactose intolerent. Plus human food isnt good to give cats...I feed mine all iams and their the healthiest ever. The change in diet is probably making that poor thing sick. If the neighbors not feeding it take it to the animal shelter. Its the best thing you could do or confront the owners. It needs to go to a vet.

The cat could very well be sick, but also may be carrying around intestinal parasites. Some of these can be transmitted to humans. They are called zooinotic diseases. Kitty needs to be taken to the vet and have a stool sample checked. Then appropriate treatment can be given to him.
