I've read several questions on here about people wanting to get pregnant--on purpose--then reaping out for Medicaid. Is it just me or is this a cop out? Why would someone want to get on Medicaid? If a person couldn't afford insurance; how would they support and afford a child?

I understand there are plenty of people out there who need help. I'm all for that--getting on government assistance when needed--but going on it just because "it's there"--I don't understand.

D N--Sent this to all the people who misunderstood--thought I'd put it up here as I cannot contact you.

This is a direct quote from my question. I think it should speak for itself but I'll elaborate. I am talking about people who TRY to conceive knowing they will need Medicaid or just to get on Medicaid. I had to use Medicaid. I'm not complaining about people who use it and I think it's a great program...like the question states...I just don't understand why a person would WANT to be on Medicaid. I hope this clears things up.

Some people just want to buck the system and bleed it dry, I guess. They are immature and don't realize that along with their free medical care comes a human life. There are those who really need it though, and are responsible...maybe they lost their job after they got pregnant, or their husband died, or maybe left them. Who knows. I don't believe in getting pregnant just to get free health care though! It costs those of us who actually work and pay taxes to suffer. There should be a cap on medicaid - like you can only get it X amount of times in X amount of years, so people will stop having multiple kids who can't afford them!!!

This question is not very thoughtful. Have you tried to buy insurance lately? It can cost you up to 800.dollars a month. I make six figures and i am still having trouble with my finances. People don't get pregnant just so they can get medicaid, people get medicaid because they can't pay for their hospital visits that are necessary during their pregnancy. You also have to qualify to recieve medicaid so they don't just get the medicaid coverage thrown at them. I really don't understand why you would say it's a cop out. What do you want these women to do not be able to go for doctors appointments that they need for their child? I'm sure they would rather not be on medicaid but their job may not offer it,and if it does it might take too much money out and they just can't afford it. I wish you would read your question and really listen to yourself, i am so offended a woman would say something like this.

There are a lot of bums in this country. Some people are just too sorry to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their own lives. They would rather live on gov't assistance than study hard, work hard, and make a successful life of their own. On the other hand, sometimes people fall on hard times and it's good we have programs like Medicaid in place to help. However, it was never meant to be a person's goal in life.
If your goal in life is to become eligible for Medicaid or any gov't assistance, you need to rethink your goals. It's never too late to finish school, get a decent job, and carve out a living for yourself and future generations.

If your a mother, I would certainly hope that for the sake of your child you would go on medicaid, or whatever assistance you and/or your baby needed. I hope life never throws you a curve ball, and you end up in a situation where you need help. It's there for a reason, and it actually benefits you. Have you stopped to think of all the disease that would be out there if people were not able to see a doctor, get treatment, vaccinations? Unless you are immune to all illnesses, you should STFU and think about it.

I was on Medicaid when I was pregnant and now my son is on it. I think you're question is very rude. Are you saying that people who don't have the money to pay $500+ a month for insurance don't have the right to have kids??? B/c people who don't have the money, obviously go on medicaid. Or would u just prefer for the kids to not have insurance???

Even thought it sounds crazy there is a method to the madness. You have to have a child and be poor to get on medicaid. If you are just poor you can't get it. untill your older. So it is a way of getting insurance for yourself. As long as you stay below poverty line you will have medical coveage. And many people who are bleow the line can't afford medical coverage or their job does not have it or they don't work enough . So even though a child is a bigger finacial burden you can finally go to the doctor when you have one

My kids are on it. I lost my job and had no insurance and my husbands was going to run us @300.00 a month. We can't afford to lose that much a month. If we did, then we'd be the people that you complain about for going out and getting food stamps. With medicaid, we CAN support and afford everything for our kids without a problem.

I hope you never have the need for any govt funds, but if you do-hope you enjoy eating humble pie.

I agree. There are some people that abuse it. But I would rather have some one that needs to be on it, be on it. I think that for the benefit for the baby, it would be the healthy thing for the baby if there is no insurance available.

If someone that needs the help that doesn't want to be on medicaid and doesn't get that monthly help, I think that that isn't a motherly thing to do.

you know i don't get you at all .you always have harsh things to say well honey you should really think before you talk because one minute your on here asking why people are against government assistance and the next time your downing people who are using it you are a two faced person and you say your an excellent mother well if your so dang good then why are you coming on hear to ask people how to clam a five year old and when to switch your seven MO old baby to a different sippy and in one of your Questions you ask why people always Questioning other peoples parenting decisions and you are doing the same thing right now i think you need to get over your self and stop judging others for things you are doing your self
and yes i come on hear and get advice but i don't spend all my time judging others about things i do myself and i don't claim to be a excellent mother but i do try my best and you always talk about stay at home moms like their the only ones doing wrong well honey i think you need to stop and look at your self and Quite judging other moms people like you is what makes life hard for mom's out their rather stay home or work full time they should not have to answer to people like you. moms are supposed to support one anther not down each other . i am not a person to get mad so easily but your starting to really get on my nurves with you thinking your the only one to do no wrong and i have news for you nobody is perfect so get over it already and let me give you back your own Quote from one of your Questions and that is (if its not affecting you then why should it matter) practice what you preach

If its there why not use it? its coming out of my check? at least its for a good cause? so what they dont want to work? big deal. i dont either but i aint using it and nothings going to stop them from using it...its al ot harder to get on m edicaid now then it was before...you can only get on it if your pregnant or elderly and they kick you back off it 3 weeks after you have the baby. so its not really like there using it that dang much....your fortunate you married a good guy and some of the rest of them are just left with guys that dont want to grow up and dont want to take responsibility give them a break......and find something else to complain about already....if i could get medicaid damn right i would...i dont see a dang thing wrong with it.....there not saying hey this is a picnic lets just get free medicaid they go through there pregnancys just like everyone else...they get treated slower...and even fi they get to there apt on time the dr takes 2 hours longer to see them then anyone else...just because there on medicaid its harder for them to get dr.s .....your really b eing kinda cruel like pointing people out for there mistakes

and i doubt you've tried to buy insurance lately because your an airforce wife and everythings giving to yall for your husband risking his life but its not as easy is you may think it can be...so thank your lucky stars you have him
