No he is not a bad Muslim. He is a traveler, and travelers are exempt from fasting. You mention the 200 miles he had to travel to see his wife and kids. Poor guy 200 miles every weekend. ;)
He would be a bad guy if he had the pork sausage with his cheese snack.

Nobody can tell who you are or what kind of person you are in the god's eyes. The purpose of Ramadan is discipline your body and try to avoid the bad habits that you have for a month, and let your body rest. I don't think eating during the Ramadan would make him a bad person or a bad Muslim as most of the people says here on Yahoo. When you welcome different people with different ideas to your religion, without criticizing them, makes you a good Muslim. When you help people, when you don't lie, don't cheat, don't steal makes you a good Muslim. And besides, when you love people and accept them as they are, makes you a good Muslim. I am so sick of people killing, hurting or swearing just because they believe they are the good ones. Remember one thing!! Allah is the one who gave you the life, as a humanbeing, you have no rights or saying to take another survival's life. I believe, this mentality makes you first a good person, than a good muslim and I believe the way that I think makes me first a good person than a good muslim! Thank you for reading.

Fasting is on of the Pillars of Islam,

You friend could have a valid reason for not fasting; there could be loads of reasons why he didn’t keep a fast. Judging from your opnening times the fast at that time is closed and one cannot eat or drink.

However if he didn’t have a valid reason for fasting then in the Eye's of God he is seen as a very weak Muslim. Ramadhan teaches a Muslim self discipline, control, respect. Ramadhan is the month where weak and strong Muslims are tested to see the strength of their faith in Islam.

Children in the third world go days without food and drink and when they do be fed it is only very little and there would be a health hazard due to lack of clean food and water. Ramadhan is to emphasis the position poor people are in, it is to emphasise pre-Islamic Arabia when the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) fasted from the sorrows of people suffering in that time.

To be a Muslim the 5 fundamental pillars of Islam are obligatory the five pillars are Shadah, fasting, prayer, charity and pilgrimage. Without a valid reason to not perform the 5 pillars will make one a very weak Muslim.

Hope this answers you question.

The Quran states that if someone is ill or on a journey, they are exempted from the fast if they make up the days later. And you don't know all about him (probably), so there may be other reasons for him not to fast.
But September, or most of it anyway, was not the month of fasting. It started on the 24th in the U.S, so dont be alarmed if he ate before then. And Allah is the all forgiving, so if He wills your friend will be forgiven.

the fasting month began towards the end of september 23rd, maybe it was before this. only the creator can determine a good muslim, also the sick, the traveller, children or pregnant/mensing or breastfeeding ladies or very old/frail are exempt.

can i just clarify this myth that eating pig is dirty pigs dna are so similar to ppl its regarded as a form of cannibalism.
go take a look at the classic english butcher he eats so much he starts to look like on (thats not an insult by the way, pigs are friends they should not be eaten) they dont rool in poo, they are kept in poo by wicked ppl they are just trying to cool down you know like elephants and rhinos.
the scientific evidence for those that crave EVIDENCE is why medics use pigs organs for ppl.

You know. Christians have it right when they try to preach "judge not lest you be judged".

It is neither our business nor any or our interest to say whether this man is good or bad. For all we know, his faith may be stronger than a Muslim who doesn't miss a fast or prayer, but just goes through the motions like a robot without true belief.

It is the Absolute truth that only God knows best, and one should look into his own heart for sins before casting down on another.

I am a Muslim, and Fasting started 23rd September and ends 23rd October. So if he was eating, it might have been before the 23rd. There are also exceptions to fasting. Besides, we do not know what God is thinking, so I say we leave the judging of whether this guy is right or wrong to Him.

Every muslim should fast. Or they'll get punished by their God, Allah when they are dead/ in the graveyard. October or Ramadhan was the month of fasting. They cannot eat during day time. They usually break fast at 4-5am and 6-7am. Depends on where they are living. Mens get full fasting month but Womens aren't. When they are having period, they cannot fast. Having period is condisered dirty(according to Allah). They must be free from any dirtyness or they can't fast. A muslim MUST NOT eat pork. It is somehow can considered as a sin.

maybe it wasn't a day of Ramadan ... coz Ramadan started on 23 September and finished in 24 or 23 October .. and if he eat a pork i don't think there is a Muslim like to eat it except if he doesn't know that was a pork .

if he was fasting and ate maybe have an exception god only knows .

god only who knows if he makes a sin or not and he is only who going to valuate and forgive him.

may Allah help him and guide him .
insha'allah he is a good Muslim .
