My neighbors cat pooped in our yard a couple days ago. It's runny and dark yellow. What does that mean?

He buried it, but I was standing there when he pooped so I saw it come out

Dani--thanks for that comment, but I don't watch cats poop :-)

He came for a visit I guess and I was outside playing with him when all the sudden he needed to "go"

he ate something funny, he needs to see a vet, it is moldy lemonade not cat poop, or it means that u need to stop examining cat poop. lol. jk. he is probably sick, and is having diareah. or maybe it isnt even cat poop, but a hairball of somesort. if u know it was poop than he is probably sick!

Hi...

Are you sure it's feces? First off, cats usually bury their "poop"... so it wouldn't be laying out in the open... Secondly, by your description of the supposed droppings, it sound more like cat throw-up/hairball to me...

Cat throwup/hairball tends to be yellow and runny... the kitty's stomach acid combined with the yellowish brown dry cat food they eat will usually make that "dark yellow" color.

And when cats have a severe hairball problem, the hairball they upchuck usually looks a little like a... well... a piece of... you know what I mean.

After all, it is a tangle mess of hair/fur that had been sitting in the cats stomach and made its way up the cats throat... thus making the hairball oblong in shape, somewhat firm and gooey.

But if you're postitive that it is feces, then the cat has probably eaten something bad. The fact that he/she is an outside cat means it could be anything... trash, a dead mouse that was killed by poison, the owners fed it too much wet food, etc.

Since this happened a couple of days ago, and assuming that the cat is still alive, I wouldn't worry about it. The cat has probably got whatever made it sick out of its system.

:)
But If you are really that worried, go tell your neighbors about it. Maybe they will take him to the vet.

Best Wishes...
T.
