Can you still achieve a fire rated wall assembly using 1/2" gypsum board? Thanks

where i live 5/8 is fire code for commercial. 1/2 is residential. some times they call 5/8 fire board for that reason.

The difference is 1/8 of an inch, and both have a fire rating, but 5/8' has a better rating.

in thickness it's 1/8th of an inch in thickness hehe!
seriously 1/2" board gives you 45min fire rating 5/8" would give you 56.5 min fire rating
