In light of all of the school violence, do you take time to really listen to your children? Kids are asking for help and no one is hearing them. Please take time out of the day to listen to the kids.

I'm asking this question as a Mom and as a teacher who has gone through a few of these situations.

I agree whole heartedly. Good behavior begins in the home and we lend our children to the education system, but teachers can only work on what we have already instilled into our children's minds from an early age. Children are our responsibility and we should listen, talk, encourage and praise them. We are responsible for the actions of our children and it pays to invest time and interest in their well being.

My children are young and new to the school system. I talk to them everyday at the dinner table about what is going on with them at school. I do think more schools need to take more security measures though. All of the doors are locked at my childrens school except for the main doors by the office. But the other day I walked right in and there was no secretary at the main office and I was able to walk all the way into another adjoining building to take my child to his/her classroom without signing myself in. That worries me.

I listen to mine. It may look to him like im not but i hear everything he says. The school he goes to is secured. The doors are locked so you cant get in. They wont open the door for you unless you are given permission to go in to a room

Yes, I listen to my kids... and beyond... I can tell when there's something more than what they are expressing verbally. Mom (me) knows when something isn't right...I always find out what it is, because I know them.
