I homeschooled but took selective courses online through amazing chat/voice rooms. It was through the Potters School. I am now in college and take some of my courses online from the school I am at. I have taken Sociology and English Comp 2 so far. The chances are high but I wouldn't say that public schools will do that. It is just a good option. I will say that many schools here in GA are now requiring teachers to put lesson plans and homework online for middle and hs students. I volunteer in the school room or a children's hospital and over half the kids pull their hw online!

Are you talking about educating someone or simply making them capable of regurgitating facts? There is a great deal more to education than sitting down and pouring information into the skulls of children. For example, students need to learn how to learn. That sounds silly, but kids who are home-schooled, which is a one-on-one intense form of education, often have difficulty when they transfer into a regular school because they have never learned how to learn. Students need to learn how to socialize, how to get along with other students, with faculty, with staff. They need to learn how to organize their time, and how to plan their assignments so they have enough time to research, review and complete the assignments. They need to learn how to reference material, and how to look up information in a number of places, not simply to google and troll for information on a computer. They need to know how to work cooperatively, with other students. This is a skill that becomes especially important in later years when they are in the workplace and have to know how to work with fellow employees. They need to be encouraged to take part in physical activities. Working on a computer gives one agile fingers, but doesn't do much for the cardiovascular system! They need to experience the arts --to paint, to sculpt, to carve, and to do the dozens of projects that happen in a school room. Not quite the same as googling the Louvre and looking at a Van Gogh.
It would really be a pity if the educational system ever became an online system.

Don't even think it!

As many homes that have at least one computer, there are so many more that do not have them. The children in these homes would be left out, and we would be required to buy computers and put them in each home, plus provide the internet service for them since they would not be able to afford that either.

And we would have to have one computer with internet service for each child in the home so that each child has equal access to the teacher as they are teaching.

Hopefully never!!! the fact that children are going somewhere and actually interacting with someone and building social relationships which are normal direct and healthy should not be stunted by removing human contact so drastically!

They already are via virtual schools...where have you been? :-)

We choose to home school the old fashion way, the internet is just a tool we use sometimes for research, watching animals, learning cultures, etc.
