I am at a three week off-site training for my new job. There are about 30 guys in training and I am hanging out with a smaller group in my age bracket (mid 30s -mid 40s). I am introverted and kind of a home-body but I want to look like a team player in my new job. After training each day, for the past 3 nights, I went out with the guys to dinner then out to drinks. We get back very late and have to get up very early, plus we share a vehicle. Tonight I decided to stay in and read but have already been getting some looks from my buddies.

This is going to go on for 2 1/2 more weeks. I don't mind going out a few nights a week, but every night is wearing on me. Is there anyway to limit the number of times I am obligated to go out?

~~~Isnt it ironic that even at our age we still are affected by peer pressure. You know what,, do what you want to do. If your content staying in and reading a good book,,,than more power to ya ! Just let your buddies know ,,"hey guys, man last nite rocked,,gotta stay in tonight and call my woman,,mabey I'll meet up with you later" and then go out the next night. Sure its ok to be a team play "at work" but your trying to be a team player for your job and employer,,,,who is your boss going to want to work for him,,someone who is dependable,,someone he can count on,,,,or is he "really" going to depend on one of your "buddies" that hmm dont sound all that mature,,,and what,,are they going to show up hungover the next morning,,,,,I think you should do what you enjoy doing ,,,and dont worry about fitting in just cause they all want to go out drinking,,,,,
Just go with them every other day. I can't stand when people have to go out with their colleagues. It's not that you don't like them. But some people don't like drinking every night. I don't know if you're British, but in Britain, it's kind of a rule: you go out for a drink after work. I mean, not everybody does it. But it's pretty common. Although it's good for socializing, I don't think it's very good for your health, and I would find it pretty boring after a while!
I don't know if there's any way to limit the number of times you go out except just don't go but remember....don't start anything you don't want to finish.
First off you aren't going to get anywhere unless you firmly
decline the invitation and tell them you'll let them know when
you do want to go. This will gain their respect.
