Honestly after being the center of attention and now be cast outside wouldn't you be jealous. You need to understand they have the same mentality and now there is this new little person getting all the attention and love and being spoiled and they are the outsiders. You need to make some alone time for the dogs and acquaint them with the baby slowly. At first keep them away until the baby gets settled. Then just like another sibling get them involved, talk to them while you are feeding the baby, and make sure they understand not to go near the child without your supervision. Also take the dogs to the vet, they need their shots and make sure they have no illnesses. Good Luck!

You ave had them 11 and 2 years and they have never went to the vet? Are you sure you need to have a baby? What are you gonna do, not take the baby to the doctor either? First of all you need to get them to the vet and let them get all of their shots before the baby is born. Then, the vet can tell you more about if the dogs should be around the baby. But if they are spoileed like that it might not be a good idea to have them around babies, and also have to think about if you are gonna have time to give them the proper care they need with a new baby. Maybe get rid of teh dogs to a better home with someone who can properly take care of them, and then when your child is 4 or 5 get tehm another dog, and a guide book on how to raise dogs, since it seems like you need a few pointers. Never took dog to vet in 11 years. Outrageous!!!

Yeah that's really important to consider. Some pets will get really jealous because a newborn baby is getting more attention, in fact toddlers in general. However, if they become accustomed to the fact that the baby is really precious to you and they shouldn't harm it. I would keep the baby away from them for now and I would get them checked out by a vet. The dogs however won't really give any sicknesses to the baby unless for example, they lick the food and you feed it t the baby.

yes or coarse. They were the kids before this new little thing came into the picture, havent u ever seem lady and the tramp??
-lol-
And the dogs shouldnt pass anything to the baby if they have all shots and are treated for fleas/ticks if they will be coming in and out of the house. Consult your doctor and the babies pediatrician- and your vet for that matter- good luck

This is a very good question! it is my experience that all house dogs are inquisitive of anything new that comes into the home but as a rule, your dogs will (as other people have told you already) adopt your new born and will be more excited when they're around the baby. as far as fleas, they don't like people to live on they're very picky about who they make a home out of. here's a good example... Ferrets don't and wont get fleas but Guinea pigs are great host for thousands of them. As far as your baby getting sick from your dogs, remember that babies have the same immunities as mom for the first 6 months and if one of the dogs bites you child, you'll have more important things to about than disease

i don't know if the dogs will do anything to harm the baby. Every dog is different. some know that that baby is special to their owners and then try to protect it. Others will start feeling jealous and maybe harm the baby.
but either way you should also show your dogs that they have to accept the new baby. you shouldn't ignore the dogs but try to invite them to accept the baby. maybe you should try to keep the dogs inside as much as possible. that way they won't bring a lot of allergens into the house.

A lot of dogs love a baby and are very protective of it. I cannot speak for your dogs, but give them a chance to get to know the baby and it will probably be fine. Sheep dogs are friendly, but i do not know the other breed.

yes, they'll sense a change and be jealous. just be sure to pay them attention as well.
i'd recommend taking them to the vet but really they're not going to transmit diseases or anything.. unlike some people think. if a baby is around a dog it helps him create more antibodies and it makes his defenses stronger..
this is pretty obvious, but no matter how well you know your dogs, just don't leave you baby alone and unattended with them..never.
