ok so i just got back from the dentist and he says i need a filling. i am 17 so i still live with my mom and she has medicaid for me so i was wondering if i could get a WHITE (tooth coloed) filling on medicaid or would u have to get a silver one? and also does trident chewing gum cause cavites? cuz i always brush my teeth and i dont drink soda and six months ago i didnt have a cavity but since then ive been chewing trident gum like everyday and now i have the cavity so could the gum have contributed to the cavity?

Actually the white fillings are not porcelain (crowns & veneers are), they are a composite resin, and medicaid most likely does not cover them unless it is on your front tooth. You can call the number on the back of the card to see what benefits you have. The cost of the white filling is greater than the silver filling, but some insurances will at least pay the cost of the silver filling and you would have to pay the difference if you wanted the white filling. Some will only pay for a silver filling. All insurances are different. Ask the dental office, they may check for you.

Hope this helps...good luck.

The porcelain fillings are generally considered cosmetic dentistry. My dental insurance doesn't even cover that, so I doubt medicaid will.
