im not really sure how to describe it but after my cat came in from outside, her skin keeps twitching. I dont know if that makes sence, but how do you know if a cat has ticks, or fleas?

you would see fleas and ticks on the cat. They do flinch thier skin without there being ticks or fleas on them. Just meant she was a little itchy, maybe dry skin. My cats do it all the time. Just as a prevenative you might want to pick up frontline or advantage for him if he goes outside.

Ticks are pretty large(about 3-4 cm) and usually burrow halfway into the skin. Just by looking over your cat you'll probably notice them, but to careful you may want to feel around for them.

Fleas are much smaller and can easily go unnoticed if your cat has dark fur (fleas are black). The most obvious sign that any animal has fleas is scratching. If you want to get rid of fleas, there are numerous ways in which you can do so. You can buy a special flea and tick shampoo, get a flea killer like Advantage, or buy a flea comb and manually remove the fleas(most effective but also most time consuming).

Whatever you do, don't buy a flea collar...they are very dangerous.

ticks will start out very small and hide around the genitals and/or vaginal area's where it's warm and dry. They also like to hide under the "arm-pits" and in and around the ears, mouth and between the toes, you can also find fleas in these areas. Fleas leave behind tiny black droppings that look like dirt or sand. Get a flea comb and some flea drops from the Vet or use something like Adams Flea spray, because believe me, if you have an animal that comes and goes?????? You'll have fleas in your house, furniture, carpet and every little crack and crevice in your home.....Adams can be used in the home on everything from furniture to the pet and it's bedding......I know this because I have two inside only cats and two small dogs that come and go (into a fenced area). since I started using Adams on the animals and inside the home and Triazicide Spray ( hook-up to the water-hose), I do not have any fleas inside or out. I have lots of Fire Ants so there are no ticks around.

Cats should be 'de flea-ed' regularly during warm weather or if they live in a centrally heated house
you can buy a liquid that goes on the nape of the neck which actually guards against worms and lung worm too
if her fur is twitching it usually means that she has an itch and it could be fleas.
treat them soon or you will have hundreds of fleas in the house in about 6 weeks time

Ticks are large and can be seen if you look for them. Search her entire body. Be careful when removing tics, you don't want them to break.

Fleas can also be seen but unless she has a lot of them or has light color hair you may miss them.

I'm not aware of either of these pests causing skin twitching. I don't know what would cause it.

You can comb backwards through her fur with your fingers. Usually you can see fleas or ticks on the cat's body.

You can see fleas and ticks. If you can't see any and you still think she has them, take her to a vet or a groomer. Then buy her some Frontline to get rid of them.

If your cat has fleas, she will have flea dirt close to her skin (looks like little black dots at the basee of hair folicles) if she hs fleas, you're just gonna have to feel her over for them.
