You're damn right we do!!!!.......No, they should read you your rights and slap the cuffs on you. If you can not afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you! You will be allowed one phone call.

Police officers are generally hated by most of society because of their attitudes and seemingly useless traffic stops. Most people feel like the really real bad guys always get away. The murderers, rapists, child molesters, and abusers--- And the one time drug buyer down the street goes to jail for three years.

The truth is police save lives, and prevent their communities from becoming hell on earth.
Every day police officers make rescue attempts because they are first on the scence. The respond to serious and fatal accidents. They take children from homes of abuse and neglect, molestation and poor living conditions. They help evacuate areas from storms and human threats. They sacrifice their lives, to catch the 'bad guys'. Because if they don't, no one else will.

Police have attitudes because they must constantly be on the defense. People hate the police. A police officer can pull over a car for a broken tail light, and end up being attacked. Most big arrests are discovered over simple traffic stops.

Police should address citizens with respect, and assume they are law abiding citizens. However, if you had'nt done something wrong in the first place, then you probably wouldnt been seeing a police officer in the first place.

Yes they do need to show the public respect and treat people as they should be treated.
I think there attitude is a reflection most of the time on the area that they work and country, Population also has a lot to due with there attitude and or precautions.
These people in most cases make less money then they deserve for a very stressful and dangerous job, this factor will also play with there attitudes.

What people seem to forget is that the police are also human beings. It would be great if they were able to set aside their own feelings and their own personalities, but they can't do that, any more than you can. The sad fact is that sometimes the car they stopped before you is full of yahoos who foul-mouthed them and behaved like absolute jack@sses, and unfortunately, it's hard to come away from an encounter like that and be smiling and cheerful for the next person you stop.
For the most part, they are reasonable and professional. There have been some true-life videos on TV showing police officers who have gone to incredible lengths to remain calm in the face of abuse, and this is the norm, rather than the exception. They deserve our respect because they do a difficult job and on the whole, they do it well.

Respect is earned, never owed. Every police officer on the beat has to earn his own respect in the way they treat people. The problem is that one bad apple tends to spoil the entire bunch.

Respect is mutual. If a person or group of persons do not respect the police, don't expect them to respect you.

I'd respect them more if they wouldn't use double negatives, say "I seen", or use "ain't".
Once an officer was writing a ticket and he misspelled a word and I was going to tell him but decided, naw, I'd better not.
He might have tasered me.

Policemen have never helped me out except by pointing out when I was driving a bit too fast and giving me a few hundred dollar fines. I think the police should be on-call like firemen, enough of the police state, can't blow my nose without seeing a pig.

The vast majority are respectful and there's no reason for you not to be.

They aren't the judges.

They are the only "buffer" between the citizen and anarchy. Would you rathar have Marshall Law - with the military running the place?

You must be young. You asked a stupid question. We forgive you!
