You're just starting and you'll be sore a lot in the beginning but you should definitely keep up the walking. Be sure to stretch before and after walking, or any exercise for that matter. Buy a pair of good running shoes or walking shoes.

I was in a similar situation not too long ago myself; I had an injury to my ankle and knee and was afraid to walk or do any kind of exercise for fear of re-injury. One day I decided that I would take the chance and like you I was really sore all over, but especially my joints. Right from the start I would walk for two hours at a time. I know that that seems like a long time but doing it at least three or four times a week I lost 40lbs really fast. I don't recommend that you walk that long (I really like walking) but don't give up!

Someone else suggested taking a glucosamine supplement but I would suggest a combo of glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM. GNC has a great product called Triflex, but you can almost go anywhere and get a combo product. I think even most grocery and drug stores, of course health food stores are always a good choice.

Good luck... hope this helps!

Cutting carbs is a HORRIBLE idea! Carbs at what give you energy, and as long as you don't OD on them, then they're actually good for you.

Make sure you are stretching properly before and after walking. That will help a bit. Also, try to take warm baths to ease the pain. Ibuprofin will help, but you don't want to take it daily as it can result in stomach lining problems. Make sure you're building yourself up to the distance and speed at which you used to walk, because too much too fast can cause pain.

I think it's great that you're doing this--don't listen to those jerks who insult you.

Keep walking. It's the best thing you can do. If you are having joint pain a glucosamene supplement might help. 50 pounds is a lot of added pressure on your body. Good luck with your weight loss!

Try water aerobics or exercising in water. Not only does it take the stress off of your joints, it provides resistance that tones your muscles. Also, spinning is another good alternative. You will have to start off slow and work your way up, but it is a great cardio workout with low impact.

THis is somewhat normal. I take it you haven't excercised in a while, and portions of you body are not used to the repetitive movements. ALways consult a doctor before any excercise regiment, get a full physical, espicially check your heart. This pain should falter after some time, but keep up the good work.
