Hes been charged with posession of weapon by previous offender, He also has an ATF hold on him, Ive been working with his family on getting him a lawyer but its really expensive, my question is: If the family does decide to pay 30,000 dollars for a lawyer, How much time is he going to be serving?

The court will appoint him a public defender if he can not afford a lawyer. He might be looking at a couple of years of which he will do a year for if much.

Since ATF has a hold on him, that means he has a federal offense against him.
You need a lawyer to tell you what his exact charges & outlook are not people from here.

Um, is he guilty? Why not just let the public defender bargain for him? If he's guilty, he's going to jail. Why make his family suffer and lose $30,000 in the process?

if you cannot afford a lawyer the court should appoint him one. but none of this sounds good.
