Coke did contain cocaine when it was first invented and for several years following. Wikipedia is as reliable as Imdb.com being written by the public rather than official sources, In other words, not very.
The name is copyrighted and has been a part of American history for so long that it would be a bad business move on their part to change it.

Cocaine could be too high priced to put in soda. The caffeine they upload in is addictive sufficient. The formulation has certainly been subtle many cases, and in spite of the shown fact that it truly is a commerce secret, sufficient people comprehend so as that there is a few high quality controls. it could be devastating for the Coke kind if there have been adjustments in high quality. somebody who worked at coke certainly presented to sell the recipe to pepsico, and Pepsico stated as the FBI. it truly is because of the fact commercial espionage and commerce secret violations are taken very heavily. it truly is quite achieveable for persons to analyze the climate of goods, yet thats unlawful, and additionally would not make ones product diverse from the contest. businesses are additionally required to make optimistic that products do no longer incorporate particular issues, and the FDA each so often does assessments.

Coca-Cola has never had cocaine in it. It had the liquid extract of the coca leaf, which is the de-cocainized flavor essence.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola_formula
"Coke" became the nickname... and cocaine was nicknamed "coke" many years after.
I'll correct myself. There was, at one time, when it was hand-produced by it's inventor, that there may have been a *trace* of cocaine remaining because of the handmade nature of the drink using the leaves: http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/cocaine.asp
But keep in mind that it also used to be (in much larger amounts) in cough syrup... not to mention that it was originally marketed for medicinal purposes. I remember having "Coke syrup" as a child for nausea. It made me puke - lol

it is actually coca-cola, the company put a copyright on "coke" because everyone used it as a nick name for Coca Cola, no one can use the name Coke for that reason...it's all about money and marketing..it's working so far, why screw with it?
