Most of my life I have 'gone' for blondes. Pamela Anderson was the epitome ! But about 6 months ago someone came into my life and changed my thoughts. She's NOT blonde and she's NOT tan. But she IS beautiful !!!! But I think as much of her beauty is on the inside as much as it is the outside. She touched me in a way that no other woman ever has. She is a FANTASTIC mom and an amazing woman. I truly hope that we can spend the rest of our lives together.

Realistically, it already does, in the Commercial World, External beauty beats Internal beauty with the proverbial Ugly stick ha ha! I mean look at the ads in TV, Music and the way Fashion is portrayed. Looks are what sells, unfortunately.

But it's heartwarming to know that the way I look is not what matters to most people (all of whom gave insigtfully great answers). That my pretty but high-maintenance looks are just that a "veneer" and that most persons will still search deeper and look at the internal qualities and find out that looks are deceptive and the figurative heart is what is really matters! And I, myself, have learned that the homeliest persons are usually my best friends and make great boyfriends. And persons go, Wow! why did she pick that? But, if they only saw what I see inside, they'd be so very ashamed.

external beauty can only compete for a very short time and then internal beauty is always what counts. It shows through in a person anyway and my view of external beauty is when a person's personality shines through. Not some vapid self centered but near physically perfect cardboard cut out!! ( and I am talking about the men!!!)

Not only does external beauty compete but usually kicks inner beauty in the butt. We live in a society that holds outer beauty at a zenith, forsaking the stronger, more resilient, more resourceful inner beauty to a very distant second place. Western culture and society is based on an ever expanding consumer oriented marketplace. Only people who have gotten past the multimedia and the garbage they peddle can see the real beauty within us all!

I like Kurt's answer, but why don't you pose this thought to the plastic surgeons, plastic surgery patients (cosmetic not reconstructive) and beauty pageant contestants out there? I think that when you are able to see the true beauty of someone, you are very fortunate indeed. BUT, how often does this really happen?
Oh, ask the smart girls who were always the smart one-never the beautiful one. In high school, I would have traded 20 IQ points to be called beautiful!

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but from the looks of things on this page, it seems that external beauty is kicking internal beauty's a-ss.

Of course not. External beauty is but fleeting. Internal beauty is forever.

I used to look after a little girl of 4 or 5 and one day she cme home and told me she had a new best friend at school called Maria. I asked her why she like Maria expecting that because her Mum and I had raised her well she woyuld say 'oh because she is kind' or something like that. But she said 'Because she has a nice face'. Her mother and I were shocked and treid to explain that becuase someone has a nice face doesn't mean they are a nice person. But the little girl just looked at us like we were stupid. 'Of course' she explained 'but if you are nice on the inside some of it shows on your face to people that love you.' True story.

It depends on the person who is looking through the eyes of the beholder. Beauty is only beauty whether inside or out by the view of that who thinks it's beautiful. Look at Bell in beauty and the beast, she saw the real beauty in the beast and not fancy pants geston.

Never. . Although a lot of people may disagree.

Inner beauty is the foremost. Good on the in, good on the out.

Albeit, it does depend on your state of mind. Plus almost everyone looks at the outside and judges, before knowing the person truthfully.
