The majority of the world are poor, some very poor and on the verge of destitution. I am sure the reason that some say middle class is that they are thinking of their own country, places like England and the USA this is probably true, but the population base of third world countries is many times greater than countries with a real middle class.

This is a very simple but sad question to answer.
As always, there are more "have-nots" than "haves" in this world.
The poor have always been the largest socio-economic group throughout history.
The basic cause is GREED. The desire for the accumulation of MONEY and not compassion for fellow human beings is the driving force of our species.

definitely more poor or working class people in the world than anything else.
