let a guy down gently without destroying his feelings. I am not interested in this guy for a relationship and I keep telling him that I have to focus on my studies. The problem is, he keeps saying or joking around that he wants to marry me, that I am beautiful. How do I tell him that I will never be interested in him romanticly but I like him as a friend and want to stay friends?

next time he makes the joke you can either, say 'thats very sweet but honestly it makes me uncomfortable when you say that because i dont feel the same way about you, i dont want to lead you on and have you get hurt.. sorry' OR laugh and say "Its a damn good thing you're joking" depending on the guy the second might be mean :(

good luck

I had this same problem, I did the coward's way out and started ignoring him when out, talking to everyone else just so i wouldn't give him the wrong idea. We haven't talked for a long time now.

I don't suggest my method

Keep it simple. Let him know that you ADORE him as a friend and wouldn't want to ruin the beautiful friendship you already have and that you feel like he's your brother and that you don't believe in incest. .

just tell him. let him know that the little comments he makes leave you feeling uncomfortable, and if he can't understand that then either ignore him totally or just be mean and flat out honest with him. one of those three things will work i promise

sit him down and in a very firm voice tell him the truth and make him understand it- no romance, no dating, no nothing between us -- sometimes this is the only way to make people understand- it sounds bad but it works

Exactly like that. Tell him you are flattered but only see him as a friend.
