My question is; Are newfoundland dogs known to be a constantly barking or howling breed? I rarely hear them and that is when something is wrong and I live with them. Now I must go to criminal court in my community for having barking dogs. Just want to know some facts on dogs. Are Newfy's known to be barking dogs?.

Are you dogs outside only dogs? How long are they seperated from you? Dogs do not like being seperated from their pack, so unless you are having problems with them barking in the house while you are gone, then that is what they will do. It's because of their situation, not the breed. Are your dog's stimulated enough? Do they get much structured exercise? How much time do you spend each day with them? See what I mean...LOTS of info still needed. You can mail me if you really need the help...that's what I do for a living.

WOW!!! Sounds like a serious issue. Any dog can be prone to barking but most large breeds are not known to be excessive (like the smaller breeds). Is this when you are gone? Or home? Anyway, you need to protect yourself in court and the lives of your dogs (as they can make you remove them from the home). Record them with a long timed tape for the day when you are not home. Take this account to court with you. Get affidavits from neighbors who do not hear the dogs. Sometimes people have the wrong dog barking.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

I'd had a newfoundland growing up. And I never had that problem. I know when our neighbors dogs bark its cuz they are board, and need something constructive to do. And if you watch the famous show Cesar Malon he will tell you the same things.

really your dogs should not be held accountable for certain traits their breed is known for and neither should you. I have learned that some people just hate dogs in general and worry that they will be hassled by them...a small 5 second bark to you will be constant all night barking to them. try setting up a video recorder to gather evidence to prove your dogs may not be the ones constantly barking, if this continues you could be asked to move or give away your dogs. If you refuse to give away your dogs and it still continues the dog will be taken away without warning and if not found a proper home will be euthanized.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/thedogtrainer

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

I cant answer that question but hopefully someone else can, but i would like to say this....

Telling a dog not to bark when something is wrong is like telling a child he can not play. Its absurd and absolutely ridiculous for you to be dragged into court over a barking dog. Last time i checked a barking dog breaks NO city or state "noise ordinance". If i were you id get myself an attorney for the court date then have your attorney request you are reimbursed his fees plus court costs for being dragged into court over such an absolutely RIDICULOUS matter.

Dogs typically bark excessivley when they are bored. They think it's fun. What your dogs need is lots of exercise and discipline.

If your dog's are living outside, then you need to rehome them or let them live in your house.

i need to know how old they are cos most dogs go though a clingy stage and howl and bark when the pack leader(that's you)goes away without them.

It cos you know they come from wolfs who live in a pack and they follow the pack leader everywhere.

my dog was like that and he upset my nabour but he has stopped now.

you could try giving them bones before you go out.
it helped my dog.

then we weand him and now he is fine. you could also take them with you.

Had Newfies for years, you have to work at it to make one bark. They are probably very close to being the quietest breed that there is.

No, this is not a very vocal breed. That doesn't mean that yours are not barking all day, just it wouldn't be the norm.
