The top of your foot, will not hurt too badly ;
If you have had a tattoo already, on your shoulder blade and you tolerated that quite well , it will be no worse
Be careful, not to wear tight shoes over the new tattoo. till it heals
, and keep the area clean, to avoid infection,
we all react to pain differently SO-------
Before you get it done, ask the tattooist if he thinks this area more sensitive . He will advise you .
I am sure it will look great , when it is done !

I don't have one on the top of my foot. But, everyone I know that has one there said it was the most painful tattoo they ever had done. I watched my brother tattoo one girl, who was heavily tattooed. She couldn't continue with it after like fifteen minutes. My brother did the main part first and it was small. She opted to not get the color done because it hurt too bad.

I've heard that tattoos on the top of the foot hurt because the skin is thinner in that particular spot. And also any tattoo that is given near a bone is painful as well.

The tops of both of my feet are fully tattooed, and although it was pretty live, it was not the WORST pain in the world. It was difficult to hold still for, as feet are sensitive and the tattoo artist must grip them pretty firmly...sometimes the grip tickles, sometimes the needle goes over a spot that makes you want to scream and liquefy, and sometimes you barely feel a spot....
Mine are 10+ years old and the color has never faded at all, they look great and they healed fast :)
Go for it, even if it hurts some, it'll be over and done.

You sound just like me 3 months ago. I had been wanting a tattoo on my foot for a long time but before I committed I did some research. This is the site I checked out. Read it if you can. http://tattoo.about.com/cs/beginners/a/aa052903a.htm I realized I didnt have the healing time luxury so I settled for my inner leg above my ankle. I'm sure you'll make the best decision for you. Good Luck!

I have a tat on my foot of a butterfly about the size of a quarter and it did hurt pretty bad. I got one on my lower back the same night that was a lot bigger and it did not hurt as bad to me. Your foot is mostly bone and the skin is really thin. It is not so bad that i would not do it again!!!

If you have a high pain tolerance No I have one on my ankle and it kind of hits the base of my foot it hurt I ain't gonna lie but its all a mind game just breathe and relax the more you clinch the more it will hurt. Don't worry about the pain get it where you want it!

all tattoo's hurt don't they?..well the skin is very thin around the top of the foot compared to other parts of your body so its gonna hurt like hell..i have one on the very bottom of my leg and it runs and swirls around my ankle bone..man when she was doing the ankle bone it hurt bad!!!! the skin is thin and the bone was right there so it hurt alot more then my other tat that's on the other leg which isn't as thin and there was no bones very near by..so to answer your question very honestly..YES

I just got mine on my left foot, it isn't too bad. Feels like just another tattoo. The next couple days my whole foot was sore too. But all worth it. I used my slip on shoes so the shoe thing was all good.

I wanted to get a star down near my toes, but my tattooist advised against it (I got it on my thigh instead). He said that he'd never get his foot done as they wear away very easily because the skin on the feet is very thin and circulation isn't as good (and you can't wear shoes for 2 weeks). As for the pain, it will probably hurt more than your shoulder as there is no flesh there (the one on my spine hurt way more than the one on my leg, and I have a high pain threshold), and I've heard your toes twitch because they hit nerves. Good Luck.
