Well, there was no fighting in 1976 that is for sure, the last war between both countries was concluded in 1973 after the Egyptian army was able to defeat the occupyuing Israeli soliders, after this brief war a peace agreement brokered by the U.S came into place.
Taba was the last Israeli occupied land and it was returned to Egypt after a long legal battle.

So, I would have to say you are interested in the 1973 war, close enough?

The Yom Kippur War, Ramadan War or October War. The war began on the day of Yom Kippur with a surprise joint attack by Egypt and Syria crossing the cease-fire lines in the Sinai and Golan Heights, respectively, which had been captured by Israel in 1967 during the Six-Day WarThe war had far-reaching implications for many nations. The Arab world, which had been humiliated by the lopsided defeat of the Egyptian-Syrian-Jordanian alliance during the Six-Day War, felt psychologically vindicated by its string of victories early in the conflict.

This vindication paved the way for the peace process that followed, as well as liberalizations such as Egypt's infitah policy. The Camp David Accords, which came soon after, led to normalized relations between Egypt and Israel—the first time any Arab country had recognized the Israeli state. Egypt, which had already been drifting away from the Soviet Union, then left the Soviet sphere of influence almost entirely

Not sure where the 76 date came from but the two most significant wars between Israel and the Arabs was 67 and 73. In 67 the Israelis preemptively attacked Egypt when the Egyptians and Syrians were massing. After knocking out the Egyptian air force it swept across the Sinai Penninsula and encircled the entire Egyptian army. It then turned its attention east counterattacking into the Glan Heights and taking the West Bank.
In 67, Isreal hesitated despite intelligence again that the Arabs were coming. The Egyptians crossed the Suez and held onto the east bank under the protection of a SAM umbrella, negating Israeli air superiority. But it eventually came out and the Isrealis once again drove into Egyptian territory. In the east, Israel hung on against Syria until it could moblize its reserves.
