I'd like my friend's to try good Cuban cuisine... preferably somewhere that serves Ropa vieja sandwhiches and cuban corn on the cob.

Hey Pop!

I've not found anything like I have found in Los Angeles or Miami. There is a place, however, on Moreno Boulevard - Near the 8 Freeway and just East of the 5 Freeway.

Andre's Cuban Restaurant.
1235 Moreno Blvd.

I haven't been in a few years, It was good (Not Great) and for a San Diego version of something, wasn't a disappointment.

Also,

Near my house in an area called North Park is a restaurant that just opened:

Tazablanca Cuban Restaurant
3946 (?) Illinois Street
Between University and Lincoln Streets - 4 or 5 blocks East of 30Th.

Like I said, just opened about 5 months ago. I haven't tried but I have heard decent stuff. Live entertainment near/on weekends.

Sorry I wasn't more help!

You might try looking in The Reader for a good suggestion.
I don't know how authentic they are but I like Miami Grill in Poway (a little north of San Diego) and I have seen something about Ropa Vieja on the menu.
Hope that helps!

This isn't in San Diego, but Alma De Cuba in Philadelphia is insanely good! Their Mojitos and tapas are the best!
