This is a really silly question but I was wondering if people really put thier kids over thier knees when they spank them? I was never spanked as a child so I don't know. Were you spanked that way? Do you spank your kids that way? Or is that just how they do it in movies and cartoons?

Yes, I put my girls over my knee/lap. It's the safest way to spank. Yes I was spanked that way as a child. No it's not just in the movies, my kids also take there pants down first. To me a spanking is more then just a single smack to the bottom.

Most people who talk about bare bottom spankings on here are perverts/trolls with spanking fetishes. I don't know anyone who actually does that. I do believe that spanking can be necessary for children at a certain age (about 2-5). For a child that young though, the punishment should be right after the fact or else it's ineffective because they have such a short attention span, so taking time to undress them seems pretty stupid. With an older child, I don't think you should be spanking at all because they are old enough to be self conscious about their bodies, plus they should know the rules and listen to you for the most part of you were consistent with discipline from the time they were young. And they're old enough to lose privileges or get grounded. But again, by a certain age it's very humiliating and degrading to smack a child on the bottom, and doing it bare would just be 10 times worse. I agree that it's sick, but that person you're talking about probably was a troll.

This was indeed the manner in which kids used to be spanked, and I have, myself, been spanked that way!
The thought behind this is that by bending the subject over, their butt cheeks are projected out in a way where it is an easy target without a chance to accidentally smack the back. The butt is far more resilient to spanking being mosty composed of fatty tissues. Plus, it was sore afterwards meaning you weren't going to be sitting and relaxing immediately afterwards.
Another popular method was to have the child bend over and grab his ankles. This had the same affect as the previously stated method.
Much of this has given way to sensitivity and the threat of 'child abuse' claims. You can see where that has led society!

Not a silly question, I wondered that too. I've been swatted a couple of times but not in any position. Although at school once, when it was still allowed, I did have to put my hands against the wall.
I don't spank my kid.

I was put over the knee and spanked, it is a very rare thing for my child to get a spanking and she is so tender hearted that when I pat her on the butt and tell her I spanked her she cries and falls to the floor, I don't believe in hurting my child because they did something wrong I believe they need to learn from their behavior and sometimes it is the wrong behavior and it needs to be stoped, but not by hurting them

I am girl and my parents will some of time only grab and slap me on my bottom but if i did something very bad then put me over their knees to spank me and that hurts! 1 know one of my friends get punished same way. So it not just in movies but i never do see movie where that happen.

I was always standing up when I recieved a spank, but I do know of kids that were actually put over the knee. There dad did it that way so they couldn't put their hands in the way or run.

Yes children are indeed spanked in this position. I was spanked over my parents lap and I spank all three of my children this way. Personally I believe it is the best way to spank.

I believe the very occasional spanking is perfectly ok. Spanking should be withheld fo the most extream situations. As far as discaplining young kids goes I think that taking away something (toy, tv, privilige) works better most of the time.
As a kid I didn't get spanked, I got the plastic spatula!

I was never spanked, however that is how I do it with my 3yr old....it gives more power to the person giving spankings so the kid doesn't run or try to put their hands in the way.
