He sems to have a never ending undercoat that virtually falls off him and leves fur balls all over the house and accumulates under furniture. Not to mention the fur he can leave on pants if he walks by someone. He is a Sheperd Chow mix.

Need to brush him daily and wait it out. Shed happens. Seems like a regular dog.

To the poster who said "put the dog outside"...all I can is wow.

Shedding can be caused by a variety of things. What kind of food are you feeding? Higher quality foods like Canidae, Wellness, Evo, California Natural, Merricks, etc don't have the corn (which is undigestable for dogs and only used as a filler) and byproducts of unnamed animal parts, and they will help decrease shedding. They cost a little more per bag, BUT you feed less than you would on a grocery store brand because there are no fillers which saves you money in the long run.

Also, is this a problem all the time or do you think he may just be blowing his coat due to the change of seasons? A warm bath with a good massage and scrubbing will loosen dead hair. You can either do this at home or schedule an appointment with a groomer.

How often do you brush him? You may want to buy a shedding blade if you don't have one already. You can also supplement with fish oil or flax seed oil, which you can buy really cheap at Walmart or something like that in the vitamin aisle.

And most importantly, thank you for keeping your dog inside where he is safe and pampered by his humans!

Get something called a "shedding blade" or a brush specifically made for 2 coated dogs. It will actually get the undercoat out and not waste your time brushing as it comes out right away. Brush twice a day for 15 minutes for two weeks only during shedding season (you can brush less other times if you want). It will be over in 2 weeks and you can have a clean place ;)!

Its fall and the beginning of coat blow. During this time you'll need to brush your dog daily with a rake, comb and big brush. The more you brush the less the hair will be all over your house.

Dogs that shed will blow coat in the spring and fall and require grooming at least weekly if not daily during bad shedding seasons.

I understand the hair problem I have two german shepherds. You need to brush them often and make sure that they have a high quality food. I also give my dogs a fish oil capsule every day. They are vitamins that you can buy at the drug store. I have checked with my vet and human fish oil vitamins are not harmful to dogs. Fish oil has cut down on the amount of hair that they shed, and keeps their coats nice and soft.

We used to have dog like that. We ended up shaving him, because you could brush him for hours and still get tuffs of fur. I'd suggest taking him to the groomers and having them shave him. He'll look a bit funny, but the fur won't be so bad.

Put the dog outside! Why is it that people get so senseless about animals? There is no way that I would have a dog inside my house. The dogs that I have had were watchdogs, and stayed outside. Dogs and cats belong outside for just the kind of reasons that you are asking about right now! Get a grip, and be real.

That is something you should have thought of before you picked that breed. But non the less just brush him everyday, I mean the dog is a part of your life for a good 10+ years, it is a small price to pay for what he/she offers to you...
