an enjoyable dinner
rule: a + consonant sound
an + vowel sound
a dinner
an enjoyable dinner
words like honor and house depend on whether the h is pronounced or not. Germanic root words (house) pronounce the H, so a house.
words that came with the Norman French (honor) do not pronounce the H, so an honor

Basically the use of "a" or "an" depends on the sound of the following vowell in the next word. Therefore there are expceptions to the general rule. Existing answers mention cases with the "h" and a vowell. Mainly is the initial sound of the next word. Example:
- an uncle
- a human being
- a house
- a historical day
- a hamster

Hey, cool bist aus Deutschland; komm aus Berlin.
Es ist "an enjoyable dinner". Musste ich auch erst lernen. Frueher hatte ich immer 'a apple' gesagt. Aber da das Wort 'apple' mit einem Vokal anfaengt benutzt man 'an'. Ist 'ne Regel. Viel Spass mit dem Englisch lernen.
