Quran 64:14 "O ye who believe! Lo! among your wives and your children there are enemies for you, therefor beware of them. And if ye efface and overlook and forgive, then lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/064.qmt.html

Read this chapter (Surah). Theres no qualification here...just look for "enemies" amongst your wives and children.

If a pious Muslim dutifully follows this wacky aya, will he not create contempt from the family members who feel they are not trusted? Wont this paranoia create the very thing its trying to look for?

Im sorry...I just dont think these are the words of God...uhhh...no...I just cant see it.

Your interpretation of the verse is very poor .

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

{ يٰأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوۤاْ إِنَّ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ وَأَوْلاَدِكُمْ عَدُوّاً لَّكُمْ فَٱحْذَرُوهُمْ وَإِن تَعْفُواْ وَتَصْفَحُواْ وَتَغْفِرُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ }

O you who believe! Indeed among your wives and children there are enemies for you, so beware of them, of obeying them in neglecting [the performance of] good [deeds], such as struggling or emigrating - because the reason why this verse was revealed was [precisely their] obedience [of them] in such [matters]. And if you pardon, them, for their impeding you from such good [deeds], justifying it on account of the distress that parting with you causes them, and overlook [such enmity] and forgive, then assuredly God is Forgiving, Merciful.

You always come up with something new don't you.

Anyway, God is saying that the human being is very much attached to life, and to saving money, and care to much about the family while sometimes your family could be bad to you and not as good as you expect so beware

And that is exactly what we see those days, son killing the father, wife robbing the husband, it is just to take care

As it also goes for the so-called holy bible...the Quran speaks in words that one must look between and your the 3rd eye 2 over-stand.....

by looking at your family thru your wife or children... u can find who's enemy is..... example: other men may look at ur wife with neagtive thoughts of lust... and somethimes they look at the child farmost worst or the same....
intake the word and apply it to you.

No, it just means don't let your responsibilities toward your family keep you from your religious obligations. Anyone who would intentionally or unintentionally keep you from religious duties is an enemy.

As opposed to Exodus:

If you "entice" an "unmarried maid" to "lie" with you, then you must marry her, unless the father refuses to give her to you, in which case you must pay him the going price for virgins. 22:16-17

God sounds better as a pimp? Or, perhaps, you prefer from Proverbs:

Beating your children will make them wise. 29:15

You are no one to justify Qur'an. I don't bother to give a damn about your ignorant questions.

how sad that they are told to not trust the people closest to them. If they can't trust their own families who are they supposed to trust then.
