Is reverse osmosis necessary for filtering new york city drinking water? Or is there another system?

I am thinking about purchasing a water filtiering system for my tap water and I understand that reverse osmosis works best with well water. I don't know what kind of system will work best.

reverse osmosis filtering is the best filtering system. If I lived in New York City, I would only have RO water.
