I have bought one today and tried a hammer, a chinese chopping knive, dropping it on the floor, but nothing worked. Finally I managed with a saw. There surely must be better ways!!!

It is a bit like opening a bank account.
Tell it of any assets you have and see how you might get the best interest from it.
Do not go for the first coconut in the High Street.
Shop around.
It's a buyer's market.
But you did the right thing by using a saw.
By getting a clean cut with two near-enough equal parts, you can make horse noises and surprise your guests as you approach the lounge.

Best known technique is to use a hammer or something of the sort right on the ridge that is on the coconut. It runs from the tip of the bottom of the coconut to the top (where you will see 3 holes). But if you feel the sides of the coconut, you will arrive on a ridge that you can feel. Hit on it hard enough and the coconut will crack instantly.

I am from Barbados, an island covered in coconut trees. I don't know where you are, but you need to buy a cutlass. Then you hold the coconut upright in your hand, and strike with the cutlass across the top of the coconut, first on one side of the top, then the other, leaving a peak, then you cut the peak off and there you go! Open Coconut!

It must not be de husked. If not dehusked you poke a screw driver into the pointed end near the top but do not go straight in but rather at an angle so as to miss the nut inside yet start the ripping process of getting the husk off.

The best way is to poke holes in the eyes in the top and let the milk drain out into a class...Then take the coconut outside and spike it on the pavement or sidewalk or patio...It will smash into a dozen pieces.

Use a nail as well as a hammer to get started. Once you have a hole you should be able to use the claw of the hammer to prise it in two.

Probably to make a hole where those three little dents are to get the milk out, then destroy it with a hammer. I know a few guys who can do it with their bare hands, but its messy...Failing that, try throwing it at a wall screaming 'fire in the hole' and see what the neighbours do.

Take a litlle hammer, start to bang in a circle in the middle of the coconut,keep rolling the coconut and bang it untill it crack!!

Smash it on the patio floor outside. Works a treat. Tom Hanks had trouble in that movie on a desert island.
