I absolutely love this part of Yahoo Q&A, getting a chance to defend what I believe. However, lately I am seeing how mean some Christians can be, for example, suggesting athiests take the pitch fork out of their butts. Do these people really think we are being an example of Jesus with insults like these.

I fully agree. I think people need to remember that they need to spread Christ's message out of love not pride.

27"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you."

unfortunatly yes. Part of the problem is we come in here as you said, looking to defend, and why would we have to defend if their wasn't a fight over it? We come in here with our bibles "****** and loaded" ready to fight, and when we don't we get laughed at by many for beleiving in something that can't be proven (once again, if I hear one more comparison of God and Santa Clause I will scream!) We are made fun of often times for sayin god bless, when we think its a good thing, and asked to defend our beleifs without using biblical verses (which is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard-come on-you want to really ask a question about why I beleive somehting and then tell me I can't use the big thick book that tells me why?) I can fully understand answering out of anger after you have been told your beliefs are delusional. I'm not saying its right, but I can understand it!

You are right. Many Christians turn people off by being judgemental. We need to be gentle, humble and loving as Jesus teaches us. All of us are equally sinful and separated in God's eyes and the only forgiveness is in Jesus. I am not better than anyone else. I just want others to know Jesus and the peace that passes our understanding. I do love people and want them blessed. I hope you will consider how much God loves you.

Good question.

Love Wins!

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

According to Jesus, the defining mark of discipleship is love for one another.

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Still, none of us is perfect...perhaps that person is just reacting to the insults that get hurled at Christians on this site. Maybe he/she isn't as far along in their spiritual growth as you are.
Maybe we ought to be patient with each other.........

Now remember that the only thing that sets Christians apart from others in this world is that we are saved. Now that doesn't mean we don't all sin. Some Christians sin in those areas of their tongues. It is very sad that Christians and other people say such hateful things like this. You just have to blow it off as a fault of theirs.

I don't think any Christian in here defends Christianity/God the way it should be all the time...with that said, I do agree with you entirely. I'd rather people not try to defend Christianity/their beliefs (if their belief is in God) if they are going to be rude about it, and that includes me.

I agree with you 100%. We have to share the word of God, but with love, not with insults. I know it's hard sometimes to bite your tongue when reading what some people say on here. It makes me cringe. But we are defeating our purpose if we respond unkindly.

people like zacharia are the exact reason i stopped going to church. because it's unbelievable how many people actually think like that.
daily i have to defend myself because of people like him.
i have read the bible, i've memorized verses, it's just not what i believe.
and GOD IS OKAY WITH THAT!
because if it is him that is real, everyone who needs to WILL realize this before it's too late.
and you can't explain that to people like him.
so he makes christians look horrible.
