If I say that we are a terrorist nation - I will instantly get a thousand thumbs-down & be called a commie lib/traitor who loves the terrorists.

All of which of course - is untrue as I love this country & want to see it be the best it can be.

Nonetheless - terrorism by definition is "the systematic use, or threatened use, of violence to intimidate a population or government and thereby effect political, religious or ideological change." Terrorism isn't just about those who are actually killed or injured - it's also about intimidating the other people who live in that society.

Terrorism is quite effective - as was demonstrated by the horrible 9/11 attacks. There is no doubt that those hijackers engaged in terrorism.

Whether or not the U.S. is considered a terrorist nation depends on what point-of-view you are coming from. The governments of Cuba & Venezuela definitely see the U.S. as a terrorist nation. There are many, many instances where the U.S. has killed totally innocent civilians as a result of warfare - as you correctly point out is going on in Iraq.

However - I would say the U.S. government would say there has never been an instance where the U.S. PURPOSELY targeted civilians as part of an attack - and that civilians killed have simply been "collateral damage" of attacks that were on military/government targets.

either way - the killing of civilians - even in enemy nations - is horrible & tragic.

I can't say we're a Terrorist Nation because I'm not aware of rock-solid proof that we've ever purposely targeted civilians. If someone comes up with that proof - then I'd have no choice but to say that, yes, the U.S. has engaged in some terrorist activity. But- as of yet - I haven't seen that proof.

This is what happens when you take a small piece of huge and complex event and try to make a point.

There is a big difference between our actions and theirs. We do our best to try to avoid civilian casualties, but end up hurting many primary due to the fact our target hides among the civilians. They go on record proclaiming they will hurt and kill anyone who are not part of them. These days, they don't even seem to care if they end up killing their own for small variation in their belief systems.

This is not to say, we should be there in the first place or not. That is a totally separate issue. But their actions and ours do not even compare at the same level. Yes, we should be sad that we hurt people. It is never OK to hurt innocent people.

But to link that to say, we are bigger terrorist (or even one) than they are, is flawed logic at best.

Who is this "WE" you are talking about? You got a mouse in your pocket? YOU may be ashamed and from many of you post I could see why. I'm sure Iraqi sympathizers like yourself see it that way. Just like Jane Fonda saw us during the Vietnam war. And those poor Somalian war lords we went and terrorized. And in Kosovo when we went in and stopped their ethnic cleansing. Bosnia? Panama? I'm sure the German's and there sympathizers even saw the big bad Americans as terrorist. well, GOOD!! Evil people need to be terrorized or at least terrified and if we are the only ones who can do it.... then OH well!!

I can't think of any other nation in a position to cause as much terror than the U.S. or any act that could cause more terror than open warfare. How many of those responding to this question, who seem to have so much less regard for Iraqi lives than American lives believe they are Christians? Yes, I think the U.S. is currently the greatest terrorist nation and I am ashamed.

A Terrorist Nation? Do you ask in the sense that America is a breeding ground for terrorist or a fighter of terrorism? War and it's aftermath isn't pretty and innocent will always be in harm's way.

Those 655000 civilians weren't all killed by Americans. the biggest percentage were killed by their own people.

Why should we be ashamed... much of that number is due to killing thousands of ours...

If we have to kill millions to save american lives, so be it.

2000+ lives (usa, others) compared to halfmill (theirs) is better than wwII and will definately cut down the losses in WWIII (on our side).
