It can be dangerous, but so can crossing the street if you don't pay attention or use your common sense.

Most online dating sites have a section listing helpful hints for staying safe when using their services.

Tips include things like meeting in a public place the first time you meet someone in person- obviously you don't want to meet someone you don't really know someplace like "in the woods, behind the barn" LOL sounds stupid but I guess some people might fall for something like that.
Don't agree to meet someone unless you see a couple of pictures of them in different places- otherwise, they could send fake pictures and look completely different from what they say.

You are smart to be cautious. Check out the hints on a couple of websites to look for ways to be safe.

Another thing to be aware of: Alot of online dating services let you sign up and post a profile for free. Right away, you might get responses to your profile, but you can't read the responses unless you pay for the service. Then when you pay, it turns out that there is no such person, they are just trying to get your money.
Also, if you are a man, you will get a bunch of responses from "Russian" women who look beautiful. They will say after a couple of emails that they are in love with you, and they want to come here to be with you, but then there will be some catch where they need you to send money. It's a complete scam.
Whether you are a man or woman, never send anyone money.

Aslong as you are careful, it's a safe as any dating. Be careful not to give out personal details like your full name or phone number. Remember that people aren't always who they claim to be. If you decide to meet up with someone, make sure it's in a public place and that someone knows where you are. And good luck! I found my bloke from the web and we've been together for 7 yrs now.

My suggestion is to use a pay site. People who aren't serious are less likely to use a site where you have to pay, such as EHarmony.

There may still be dangerous people using pay sites but it is far less likely because their true personal info is known by the company.

I got tired of picking pyschos on my own so I tried some online sites. I dated a few people from Match.com and a few from Yahoo Personals. All psychos!

I met my wife on EHarmony.

That says something...

No! Online dating is not safe. There's too many unaswered questions. There are far too many horror stories and only a handful of success stores.

I wouldn't take any chances of meeting any of these people on your own in rl...too many horror stories out there but I am sure there would be a few decent people put there too.

bien ce devrait être. Il n'y a pas aucune raison à aussi long que vous restez à guidlines entrepris pour vous, comme réunion dans les places publiques etc.
