Get two kittens because a kitten has so much energy and if it has a little pal to play with then it will be more relaxed with the older cat.
dont get another cat because it will take longer to get used to your cat but if you get a kitten then he/she will want to be your cats friend and it will give your cat a sence of responcability.
Hope I helped.
Good luck

If it was me, I would get a female kitten or a puppy. No adult anything.
About a year & a half ago, I brought a male kitten into the house. We already had a spayed female (she's daddy's girl, approx. 5 yrs. old, who had had one litter of kits before getting fixed ) and who had been with us for about a year. Boy was she mad !! She growled & hissed at him & he backed up & then went right on playing by himself. She was mad at us too for about 3 days for bringing him home ! Then about a month later they were getting along (wrestling with each other.) She hisses at him & then goes back for more. He never hisses. He's mama's baby boy. Now he's bigger than she is so I'm sure he has said "Remember how mean you were to me in the beginning?" Oh, this is funny: when it came time to get him fixed, she was so happy to see him being carried out in the cage. She seemed happy all day thinking he was gone for good & then we brought him home! Then she was mad all over again for a few days! Good luck!

I would go with a female kitten or female adult. I would think 2 males would be less likely to get along, which would create more of a chance for the male to "mark his territory."
